Holyfield was 36 when he fought Lewis the first time (and lost badly). Basically he was about a year older than Wlad is now.

If both fought in their absolute primes, Lewis would win in a tough fight imo, and it'd be tough mainly because of Holyfield's outstanding chin. I would favor Holyfield over the Wlad that fought Haye though.

 

Holyfield was 36 for Lewis in fight 1, and 37 when they rematched.

Lewis was 33 for fight one and 34 for fight 2.

Holyfield is 3 years older than Lewis.

The facts however is that Lewis was in his prime in his mid 30's.

The younger version of Lewis did'nt have much of a jab, and relied on punishing with right hands.
Holyfield would have had a field day keying in on just the Lewis right hand as Lewis jab was used just as a range finder and was weak.

When Emmanuel Steward started working with Lewis is when the jab was developed and Lewis became a more complete fighter.

Therego, the Lewis that faced Holyfield is a prime Lewis.


Oldyfield at 37 years old gave a prime Lewis a run for his money, some including myself thought Holyfield won the rematch.

In any regard, I think its plain to see that if Lewis had faced Holyfield during Holyfield's early Heavyweight reign, Holyfield would have beaten that version of a right hand happy Lewis rather decisively.

Take a look at the Mercer fight. Lewis is relegated to brawling with Mercer because thats all he knows how to do. His jab was virtually nonexistent at that point, he just used it as a range finder.
Holyfield outclasses that version of Lewis and rather handily.



Let me also not that bigger heavyweights have a longer prime as their height and reach allows them to compensate for the quickness and speed they lose as they get older.

Even Wlad today at 35 years old I can see has lost some speed and quickness. His height and reach allows him to compensate however where a smaller Heavyweight would'nt have that luxury.
