Roy is a very good commentator, he has off nights like everyone else but I thought he made a lot of good points in the Haye-Wlad fight and criticised bith guys.
It doesn't matter who's commentating, fans will still moan. Most people wanted Roy back on HBO, now he's back, everyone's moaning.
I like RJJ, but his bias in the Klit-Haye fight was readily apparent. He can't stand the Klitschos and was heaping praise upon Haye because David emulates his style.
I liked Jones commentating. I thought his pre-fight analysis of what Steward said about the wetness making it harder for Wlad was pretty good. I like him as commentator (Hopefully it keeps his ass outta the ring). He has me worried talking about an US Heavyweight. Maybe he is thinking he still has some of his speed and heavy tend to be slower.
Roy Jones was the best commentator during that fight. He did a good job of explaining why Haye fought the way he did and what his strategy was. Merchant didn't have a clue. Merchant claimed going into a HW fight looking to win with one good punch is a stupid plan, but that's exactly what Foreman's plan was against Moore. Merchant and Lampley have never fought. They are ignorant of the technical aspect of the sport. You need a guy like Roy Jones to explain these subtlties to the audience. If Roy Jones was being biased, then what do you call what Lampley and Merchant were doing?
Jones is painful to listen too. These days I'm liking ShowBox's announcers better. Tarver is great! But I'm still a Lampely and Merchant fan. Bring back Foreman, he was great...
this is true... my problem with Jones is that I speak better English than him and he's American! he needs to take speach lessons or something... also all his 'God' sh*t is seriously annoying, just comment on the fight, not about your religious beliefs...
Was it just me, or at times did Roy's speech seem a little different, lazier and more laboured? As for Big George making a return, I remember laughing at him claiming that a stiff jab will break somebodys back...
Roy was absolutely awful. None of Wlad's jabs are landing, Haye is from the Roy Jones school and fighting the right fight, etc... It's clear his motivations and his self-decided mission that night: minimize the dominant champ by all means possible. Hope RJJ gets the boot like Lennox.
Jones and Tarver are excellent commentators. They aren't always fluid but these guys aren't communication majors, they are fighters. I'd still rather hear Tyson than either, but both of these guys are quality listens.
