Its not about what natural weight someone is. I am talking about if these guys are champions in ww then they need to defend there title against another ww. What happen to fighting a mandatory challenger in your weight division?

    Excellent post.

Fairweather fight fans miss their Lennox Lewis's and Mike Tysons and Larry Holmes'.

But if they would recognise the beauty of the sport, they would see the absolute brillaince displayed in even the most awkward and boring fights whence one of the K bros dominates from opening bell to the ultimate ending, whether by brutal KO or by wide and unquestionable UD domination.

Just because boxing is not in an all-time high in popularity in the US does not mean it's in bad shape. If boxing was truly dying, Mayweather and Pacquiao wouldn't be setting PPV records the last few years in the US. Those numbers are contradicting to your claims.

Excuse me but what record has Mayweather or Pacquiao set ppv wise in one of there fights?????????

De la hoya vs Mayweather is still the highest grossing ppv ever. So what are you talking about sir?

If thats the case, then your mindset is potentially killing the sport.

We would of been robbed of Duran vs Leanord. A LW champ facing a WW champ..

What do you say to that?

Duran was the former lightweight champion sir. He was the #1 welterweight contender when he fought Leonard!!!

No matter who win or lose the fight between Manny vs Jmm they both will still be the champion in 2 different divisions and thats wrong. They need to defend there title.

What do you say to this?????

You just mentioned one of them.

Pacquiao just became the first boxer in history to sell 1 million + PPVs in 4 consecutive years.

While i agree with most of what you said, what does it matter that pac doesn't speak english that well? When he fights the WHOLE WORLD WATCH because most of his fights are usually exciting.

Boxing has been here for years and once manny and floyd retires, someone will take their place and be the face of boxing.

I mentioned that far as marketing and representing boxing to the media and the casual fan!!! Boxing would be able to use Pacquiao to represent the sport all over the world.

While I disagree that boxing is dying, in regards to Mayweather and Pacquiao, they are the only boxers setting records. Can you name 10 currently active in their prime boxers that the general public knows?

He had one good fight at WW before facing Leonard and that was against Palomino

In his other fights he was fighting B/C level guys and was expected to destroy them but didnt, he seemed slow and not in 100% top shape. But when facing Leonard he was back to his normal Duran

Marquez in this case is fighting Pacquiao and not Leonard. Pac is smaller and carries the same dimensions as Marquez, so theres nothing wrong in terms of size

Pacquiao since 2008 has been beating all the WW around so why should he face somebody within the top 10 that doesnt have a big name? If youre willing to talk about boxing not being in the limelight etc.. THEN YOU CANT DISPROVE OF THE PACQUIAO MARQUEZ FIGHT

Name one other WW other than Floyd that can challenge Pacquiao AND be marketable? Nobody, thats the answer, Marquez has a huge Mexican fanbase and a die hard boxing fan following

And i have said this before, IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR A FIGHTER TO DEFEND HIS TITLE AGAINST AN OPPONENT WHO IS MOVING UP IN WEIGHT. Nor is it wrong as you suggest.

Was it wrong for Hopkins to defend his title against Trinidad? The biggest fight that could possibly be made for both fighters?

Was it wrong for Whittaker to defend his title against DLH? Again the biggest fight to be made.

Was it wrong for Jake LaMotta to defend his title against Sugar Ray Robinson?

I could go on all day, but i hope youre open minded enough to understand this basic principle

I hope you understand its two different things when someone is moving up to challenge the champ for there belt and someone meeting at a catchweight for money purposes for a one time thing.
