The whole Hbo team just see dollar signs. They always root for the pop fighters. Hatton didn't land much through the fight.
I remember Teddy Atlas had predicted a one sided fight on a local NY show back when the fight was first in the makings. For Lederman, I'm a bit clueless with his scoring after seeing the fight a 2nd time (1st time I was a few sheets to the wind, so I just figured Hatton was still in the game towards the mid rounds). Bernstein's a good commentator, I've always liked the guys from Showtime. I know RJJ won't come back because he didn't like having to work with HBO's schedule taking away from his daily activity. I wouldn't criticize Lampley though, he's said before that Floyd is his favorite fighter.
This the same Lederman that had Jermain Taylor losing to Pavlik on his scorecards...the man is a joke as is his judging.
I have questioned some of Lederman's score cards. He getting old, he's been doing this for a very long time.
Lederman isn't going any time soon. Hey may be wrong occassionally, but keep in mind, he is very experienced. He doesn't just give you an idea how the judges might score, but also an insight into how they score, as he has worked with MANY of them. Is he losing it a bit? Sure, but he still has some good insights. That being said I thin there DO need to be some changes. Lampley is solid. Steward is very good (people here ***** about him for STUPID reasons, sorry!), he is a very deep understanding of boxing and gives a lot of very interesting insight. Lsrry Merchant is um... drunk. I think he needs to go. He's been doing it for a while so he's got a lot of long time fans, but lets face it the guy doesn't even talk that much to begin with, and when he does, half the stuff he says makes no sense. As for getting Roy Jones back, he wasnt fired because he was bad at his job, but because he was a bad employee. HBO wants to put on a good show, but if Jones couldn't work with HBO, then he can't do commentary, thats HIS problem. Personally I feel like Larry needs to go though. BUT,HBO should do something to commemorate his retirement for real, because he's been involved in boxing for a while. Did you guys know that Larry Merchant was one of the shareholders in the company that managed Joe Frazier's career? TRUE! I think essential to Merchant leaving though, is getting a REAL replacement! Max Kellerman is good in Jim Lampley's role, or good on his radio show, but in Merchant's position he's SO BAD!! I'm not sure who could replace Merchant, but it needs to happen. Lederman could go I think, be replaced with someone who is under 100 years old, but still has good experience as a judge! Same for Merchant, replaced with someone under 100 years old, doesn't drink 100 martinis before going on the air (just kidding Larry!), and doesn't think he has to make up one liners like Larry does (cough MAX IS A DOUCHEBAG!). You can't just change them all though, or it ceases to be World Championship Boxing!
What specifically are you referring to?? His chances against Mayweather maybe? I agree about that, but in the USA Gatti was such a legend in the first few years of the new millenium that he basically CAME hype!
Atlas talking sense for once. Hatton should not fight Cotto, too strong for him, He should stay at L.welter.
Are you ****ing kidding me? Oscar is the best example BY FAR......................I really think Oscar has ****ed Jim Lampley before... Listen to his commentary during the Tito, Hopkins, and Mosley II matches, it's downright disgusting:tong
