although the hw division is hardly spectacular, there have been some decent fighters in it within the last 8 or so years.and wlad has beaten every one.i think the ease with which he beats them makes most boxing fans overlook the fact that some of them are more than capable of competing,if not contending,in most hw eras, especially the late 70's and 80's where hw's were generally smaller and not many were over 6'4.wlad has an impressive top 5 wins, which i list below,in no particular order eddie chambers-an undersized hw for sure but still capable of presenting problems for most hw (and cw) fighters in recent memory due to his speed, defence and general boxing skills ruslan chagaev-an undefeated former world champ when wlad fought him.he was tough, durable, fast, had decent power and while he may have been short,he had proven he could handle much taller men with his defeat of valuev sam peter-a great win for wlad.peter was a strong, powerful, tough fighter who wasn't slow and was in shape at the time wlad decisioned him.the 04/05 peter would have given alot of past hw problems david haye-tipped as the man to end wlad's reign by some, the fast, elusive and moderately powerful haye is wlad's most recent victory and is a good one as it gave rise to wlad's ultimate achievement:total control of the hw divison as he unified the belts.overall,a good victory slightly tainted by the lack of a ko calvin brock-another undefeated fighter, brock was touted as a serious prospect at the time wlad fought him.its the weakest of the 5 wins but a good victory none the less against a powerful, talented hw im probably gonna get a shitstorm for this but i know i'm right so it doesn't matter
Had Wlad not completely destroyed Brocks confidence, he could have easily made some more noise in the division. I agree that the total Klitschko domination makes the division look weaker than it actually is. Most of the top contenders of today would be top contenders of most any era. The 90s certainly were the most exciting era, but only because you had 4 ATGs and possibly 7 HOFers fighting and exchanging titles. IMO, when Vitali retires after Adamek and Haye, Wlad will destroy the WBC #2-3, gain the last strap, and cement himself in the top 5 GOATs of the HW division.
what needs to be understood is that many undeated fighters are pure hype jobs brought up through careful matchmaking - Johnson, Arreola, Chambers, Brock and Peter would be nothing in most era. Wlad's best win is Haye and that is sad.
arreola wasn't a hype job.he was labelled as a tough hard-hitting brawler.and thats what he is.same as peter.
Wlad's best wins were against Ray Mercer, Tony Thompson, and Jameel McCline (back when McCline was a force in the heavyweight division, before he descended into being a gatekeeper).
Arreola is a C grade fighter, out of shape and with little talent. He is a hype job brought up to appeal to a demographic of US TV. Anyways I mentioned him but Wlad never fought him, though I saw stories saying he could be next?! Peter is a better fighter but lost his way after Wlad beat him and now seems to have nothing left.
The HW division is really weak now and therefore we might not see where wlad would have been if it was a competitive division
Joe Louis probably fought in a weaker era and is still an all-time great. I want to see what Helenius can do. Wlad may still get his defining fight if this guy is as good as I think he is.
Young Foreman lost to an old, post-prison Ali and was humiliated by feather-fisted boxer Jimmy Young. Old Foreman got a gift decision against some German nobody and lost to Tommy Morrison and generally just sucked. Wlad and especially Vitali would toy with any version of Foreman. He was powerful but slow and only looked good against crude punchers with marginal boxing skills. He would also be considerably smaller and lighter than either klit bro. Wlad and Vit are the first real giants of the ring who are also athletes who possess awesome technical boxing skill sets. American cruiserweight champ U.S. Cunningham almost waxed poetic about both Klitschko's boxing skills and their tremendous speed for their huge size during one interview I listened to.
There's nothing wrong with the guys Wlad beats. It's the way he beats them. Round after round of jab-jab-grab is pathetic coming from a guy so naturally talented. And don't even start with that "A win is a win" crap. UD's and gropefests does not a good champion make.
'Ay will jayb jayb jayb and grayb, and knaack him aut wit ze steelhamma in ze twelfth' Lmfao borats resume is pretty decent, but hes no ATG..and wouldn't defeat anyone within the top 15 ATG at heavyweight. Although I must admit I enjoy watching his interviews, much more entertaining than his fights.... 'Ayyctually, did you see him agenst valooeuv, he ran like ze chicken' 'Ay will giveth David reality rehab' Hahahaha
Also, unless you are a fanboy, you would realise that wlad hardly managed lay a glove on haye aside from maybe a few jabs which did little to cause haye much trouble, nowhere did haye look like he wad in trouble in fact. The only thing that impressed me with wlad was the way he cut off the ring, he moved fantastically, but he was there for the taking at times....now whether you believe David Hayes foot really did stop him from throwing the right, or that he was simply too gunshy, the fact remains Klitschko looked very beatable....
