Akifumi Shimoda vs Rico Ramos this Saturday.

not sure about this fight.after reading some interviews and watching him talk on tape i think ramos might be a bit ******ed or naive

 

Shimoda's pretty good, though nothing spectacular. He's got a cultured jab, which he continuously pops out at you while slowly advancing, and an accurate straight left when he gets into a rhythm. He puts his shots together well and has a humungous head, which he puts to good(albeit illegal) use. His head movement is good for not letting an opponent set but it's poor in terms of enabling him to defend himself. In essence, his defence is pretty bad, and, being a southpaw, he's more vulnerable to Ramos' money shots, the left hook and the right hand. He's hasn't got enough power to go toe-to-toe against the better fighters in the division, and he's not quick enough of hand or foot to keep swarming fighters off of him.

Not too sure about Ramos though, I've also only seen that fight, which may not be an accurate summation. I'll be sure to watch him a bit more before the weekend.

Be that as it may, he's a classy operator in that squared circle and I favor him here.

Shimoda is good, but he inherited a lot of the excess shine that Lee had from coming out of nowhere (from most people's POV) to upset Poon.

Good to see a Japanese fighter go abroad. Is he from the Teiken stable? They said they were thinking about having some of their fighters go abroad.

 

I see Rafa reminding us why he's so well regarded in his last stand, losing one more war with the last vestiges of his elite-level abilities.

Nishioka's just too much at this stage.
