He had a great win in his prime and was the dominant champ of his era for years.

Overrated and underrated is very subjective. Who is doing the rating??

Perhaps more than anyone, Tyson gets both over and underrated.

Mike Tyson was short, quick, had decent head movement, when he chose to use it, and could overpower opponents with sheer will. The thing that separates Tyson is that he had actual boxing ability. He and Holyfield are similar in that they had a solid understanding of boxing fundamentals in case they needed it. I agree that people view those losses incorrectly.

Underrated ? please ! ... Even people who don't know **** about boxing know the name "mike tyson"...The media hyped this guy so much that to this day...even so called "knowledgeable" fans believe that he's god...and that he'd ko everyone in the 1rst....it's ****ing insane.

He was very athletic , and very talented too...But the best ever ? **** no. That being said...He wasn't a joke either... And i believe he could've had a better potential if Cus would've been around him a bit longer.

To say he's "overrated" is to confuse his boxing with his celebrity.

Most people who follow the sport are quite reasonable when assessing Mike.

He was a beast but he was, and is, embarrassingly overrated. Massive, massive hypejob. And one dimensional too. He couldnt adapt.

Hes probably rated fairly by most boxing fans. I mean he is not in most top ten lists and is usually in the 10-15 range.

By lay people of course he is going to be overrated and put in like the top 3 ATG heavies that dont know any better.

He did what he was supposed to do in the 80s, he cleared out the division and at a very young age and with no olympic experience.

  13. oh you moron:patsch hypejob? :-( he might not have been the most versatile fighter but his one dimensional style is what makes hims such a force because if you cant back him up you cant win this why tyson beats ali and wlad and most big heavyweights, the the only fighters i say beat prime tyson are foreman and holyfield , lewis i give a good shot and holmes too but i can see tyson wearing them down

****ing hell. Do we really have to go through this utter bull**** again and again? Newbie, do your research instead of spouting off bull**** on a subject you're very clearly not educated about.

There was a helluva a lot more than Spinks and Holmes. And Holmes wasn't so past prime. He wasn't peak, but he wasn't too far removed from it either.

Look at boxrec. Look at the names Tyson has. He has so many of them. Do your damn research!
