I think this is a harsh statement. The man with the highest IQ on record is a nightclub doorman or something. His background just didn't provide the opportunities for certain doors to be accessible to him. Also you can't ignore the fact that extremely intelligent people do stupid things all the time. Mayweather is most likely fairly average in terms of overall intelligence outside of the ring, but a pretty much a genius in boxing terms. This is why I stated in my original post that whilst being an interesting point of discussion, the topic is more or less irrelevant. Specialising and excelling in one area (i.e boxing) usually leads to greater things than a good general level of aptitude or 'smartness'.
Ali wasn't that smart, in my opinion. Used the same jokes and routines endlessly, many of which were concocted by Bundini. Bobby Czyz, yes. He's in Mensa, and that says a lot. But let's not forget Archie Moore...very well-rounded intelligence, articulate and knowledgeable on many subjects.
Archie ****ing Moore, I don't care what anyone says. The man spoke like a university professor, knew something about everything. Knew a LOT about kicking some ass. Love that guy.
The most intelligent boxer of all time? Has to be Joe Calzaghe: he retired still in his prime, and with his brains still intact. That's pretty darned smart.
Floyd Mayweather. He asked for drug tests knowing he was afraid of needles, so Manny wouldnt take the fight, easy way to duck Manny without the public getting wise.
