Yet another gimme fight lined up for tomorrow. I just can't see how anyone actually classes him as a real champ when he keeps fighting sub par opposition. Anyone else think he's gonna come a cropper when he fights the likes of kessler/froch/ward?
Who do you expect him to fight when the super six has been ongoing? I believe ward, froch, Kessler and dirrell beat him, but he would beat the likes of abraham and green. The guts got to keep busy. Once super six is over I expect him to fight the winner
Obviously his opposition has been a mix of average to awful but he's still a good boxer. Remember, not too long ago Calzaghe was doing the exact same thing.. a couple of good wins later and some now regard him as one of the best of the last 20 years or so. We're just lucky that all the others at super middleweight have been prepared to step up themselves otherwise we could've been caught with a situation where Froch just defends the WBC belt in Nottingham, Bute keeps selling out Canada and Ward the same in Oakland. In a years time, hopefully it'll be sorted.
I find the guy quite difficult to rate; he's looked pretty good in the fights I've seen but the opposition hasn't been fantastic. Like others have said, hopefully the big fights start to happen against the Super Six guys soon; keeps the division pretty exciting.
Tbh, why people are raving about him I don't no. He's been knocked the **** out once before (if the ref could count to 10). Froch, ward, Kessler and Dirrell all beat him.
On a side note, I don't think he has a right to fight the S6 winner. He needs to fight either Kessler or Dirrell before he faces Ward/Froch IMO
Fair enough. The only reason I say so is because he should have been in this tourno. Fair shout for him to fight a non finalist first, but I personally want to see if he lives up to the hype by facing the winner, rather than facing someone who isn't at the top, as it seeks to me this is what he gets stick for in the first place!
Like I said, I think he comes unstuck the first time he steps up. Dirrell would run rings around him IMO. I don't think he deserves the pay day for fighting the winner of the S6 as he hasn't beaten anyone to warrant such a big fight. A win against a Kessler, Dirrell, or even a Glen Johnson, and then he should fight the winner.
Agree dirrell beats him handily, for me bute fighting the winner puts to bed a lot of arguments about who the top smw is. However as you quite rightly say he should really fight a super six competitor before facing the winner I suppose to determine if he can live at that level!
100% Kessler IMO (should he stay active and keep winning of course). He was only forced to pull put of the tournament through injury (not like the bull**** excuse Dirrell used when it was clear he was saying "I don't want to fight my friend"). The WBC virtually guaranteed him the opportunity should he fight again. The problem is, I think Kessler loses again to Ward, as well as to Froch this time (if he was more active the first time he would I've won the fight). In an ideal world, Bute would fight Kessler, and the winner would fighter Ward/Froch. Winner of that steps up in weight to challenge the LHWs.
Exactly, people are saying 'ye but he'll fight the S6 winner', but what's he done to deserve that kind of fight? If the winner of the S6 has a decent alternative they should take it. They don't owe Bute any favours.
