Duran says he beats Pac

he beat Leonard in his prime. what more do you want?

 

so you think Mayweather was in his prime in 1998? Ray was in his first reign as welt. champion and his second defense. He was not prime. All he had to do was lose to Duran when he fought Duran's fight and then fight his fight and he won easily.

I know you tried using an extreme example but you used a bad comparison, considering the way floyd's career panned out one would conclude his prime was as a sfw/lw.

How you reach the conclusion that leonard wasn't prime escapes me. Was he magically prime during the rematch? Or suddenly prime against hearns?

I think he was green vs a prime hearns.

 

Peak for peak, Duran takes this. But I think the current Pac would win a lopsided decision over 154 Duran. Physically that Duran was a different animal to what he had been in his prime.

Even at WW Duran had great speed and strength. He outmuscled Leonard who was a beast at that weight, but at 154 Benitez had no trouble handling him physically and was just so much faster. Laing almost manhandled Duran at times, as well as outspeeding him of course. This version of Duran was beatable and Pac would beat him up IMO.

This is what Mag does. he claims Leonard wasn't in his prime in June 1980, but gives Hearns. and Benitez credit for beating Duran, when Duran clearly wasn't in his prime.

Leonard expediated his prime by fighting top guys in a very quick time period, but his prime could not and was not when he fought Duran the first time. As a matter of fact, fighting Duran so early in his reign when Duran was still young and fighting well took guts. I do not think Ray was prime against Duran in Nov. of 1980 either, but all he needed was a lesson in fighting his fight and he came and beat Duran easily. And when he fought Hearns in 1981 he was the closest to his prime for a top fight as he ever was, except for the Bruce Finch fight which was not a big fight.

 

that was in reference to Duran saying he could beat Pacman now. How is that not pertinent to Duran saying that? If he could not beat Joppy in 1997, how would he beat Pacman in 2011?

how did i know you would map out his career so that he was green vs duran (a guy you don't really appreciate) both times and magically prime vs hearns (your favourite fighter).

i'm just gonna start following other's example and leave you to it when it comes to Duran because you're just so wrong it's hard knowing where to start.

Define was a troll is? I have heard people say that about anyone on the board who does not agree with the general consensus. I am not going to go along the general consensus just because it is the "in" thing to do.
I back up what I say with facts. Yes I claim and absolutely state Ray was not prime when he fought Duran in June of 1980. The style he fought against Duran to fight Duran's fight proves he was not prime. From a physicality standpoint he was the best he could be probably, but not in an experience or mental standpoint to put it all together, and far from it. You think Ray was prime in his second defense of his first title?

I actually believe Duran in 1980 at 147 was closer to prime and the top as Duran could get in regards to his skills, than Ray in June of 1980 in regards to his top skills. And still Ray beat Duran in November of 1980 easily just by fighting his fight.

no I never said he was prime with Hearns, I said he was the closest he ever came to being prime in a top fight since he retired in December of 1982, eliminating what would have been his prime probably about 1983. But cramming all those big fights into a short time span probably was burning him out, which is why I think Ray retired mainly from the retinal injury, and probably 40 percent from being burned out with such a tough schedule.

yes Duran was the 1970's lightweight.. Hearns was a 1980s welterweight. Spinks was a 1980s light heavyweight. I see your point, but I also know that 147 or 154 to a guy who was struggling to make weight for years is not as big a stretch as you guys want to say it was. The fact he could beat Moore and Barkley up higher in weight proves he could handle the weights.. It was the quick styles which were a problem to Duran.
