Not a comeback win exactly, but he did well to make it to the end, let alone come back strong after the 1st

 

I don't know how many have seen those, but I also wonder if they'll know the significance of them.

The Gracies, who started the UFC, didn't want any wrestlers in the first few tournaments. Rickson, who is touted by the family as their best fighter, took approx 14 minutes to submit a quality wrestler in their studio some time before the 1st UFC. They decided then, that there would be no wrestlers in the competition. This was supposed to be their coming out party to the world, and they didn't want to risk taking on someone they might struggle against.

Dan Severn was the first wrestler allowed to enter the octagon. Severn had a high level wrestling background, and outweighed Royce by 70 lbs. This was Royce's first real threat, and he was really tested. After being pushed around the cage for 14 minutes, Royce slapped on a triangle. Well he had him caught inside his legs for a while, but Dan didn't know he was in danger. By the time Royce started squeezing, it was too late.

When Smith faced Coleman, no one gave Smith a chance. Smith was a kickboxer, and everyone had accepted the fact that strikers had no chance against grapplers. Smith learned enough ground defense to keep Coleman from dominating him on the ground, and was able to win a decision. I wish everyone could experience the excitement when Smith was able get back to his feet against Coleman. Back then there were no rounds, and no stand-ups. That was a very dramatic moment.
