You see I don't understand this. Sure if the Aussie fighter isn't a wanker support him but if he is like Mundine I root for Trout the road warrior who's doing it the hard way. Let's not forget Mundine refused to let Shannon Taylor play the national anthem when they fought.
He's hardly a proud Aussie but to each their own.

Trout is a legit opponent for Mundine to fight at 154 but the title is not legit. Cotto is the WBA champ.

    Cant agree here...lets talk facts

Fact is mate the title is ligit...it's the WBA 154 World title :hi:

Says so in all records...WBA, BOXREC, boxing writers and officials all round the world call it the world title...it's not just me making this up :D

Cotto has the super champ title...he's not in the WBA rankings system nor mandatory system...
    This content is protected
...the super champ belt is for idle big names looking for super fights

The WBA World title belt is the real deal...the WBA super champ belt is for extra sanction fees as is the interim belt unless used in the case of an injured champ

Now if the superchamp had to fight the World title holder then I would agree but fact it he doesnt

Fact is the interim belt is more legit because its in the system and a fighter can force a fight with the World Title holder...now that's fair play inside a regulated system

Unlike the World title holder cant force a fight with the super champ...now it's clear thats not a fair system :deal

So as far as being a belt that can be won and challenged through a point system the super champ belt has less credibility

Yes Cotto is the better fighter...however fact is though the belt was created so a fighter like cotto can have a belt and not defend it unless he wants to...and he can pick who its against...now that's not legit is it?

    Absolutely incorrect Ash.
The WBA (which i feel is an absolute joke having up to 3 champs at 1 time in 1 division) rules stipulate every 18 months the super champ must face the regular champ or else the super champ or regular champ (depending on which 1 is refusing the fight) is stripped of his belt.
Since the WBA "Regular" Title was not won until Oct 2010, Cotto would have a fair amount of time before this mandatory eventuates, even though IMO Cotto does not care & only cares about big money/legacy fights at this stage of his career.

Gamboa was a unified champ hence his "Super" titlist status. but when the IBF stripped him for not weighing on the day of the bout re-weigh in he was stripped of the WBA belt also.
Why this matters?? Because the WBA already had a Super Champ in Chris John who had defended his WBA Belt 10 times to get elevated.
Gamboa was the "Regular" champ & became the "Super" champ as a result of unifying his WBA "Regular" belt with the IBF's Title.
Effectively Gamboa was stripped of both because he didnt weigh in on the day of the fight as part of IBF rules. IBF rules stipulate no more than 10% of a weight increase.
The WBA in the meantime had Jonathan Barros become their WBA "Regular" champ.
    Confused yet???

Ok I was wrong about the rule.....couldnt be bothered looking it up....because it was made that way so they wont meet.....the timeline is the problem....makes it almost impossible for the 2 to meet....the timeline placed on this makes sure they wont fight

Has a superchamp ever faced the champ yet...that would be interesting?

My whole point is the super champ will hardly ever or never fight the champ.....and the WBA have set it up for this reason....18 months to face the mandatory.....thats hardly competitive is it?

So do you agree with the IBF's 9 months mandatory timeframe??
IMO this is a way too short timeframe, & with so many regularly forced mandatories many of them are a farce. e.g. Bute forced to battle with not even top 20 ranked Mendy IMO.
These days your lucky if a world champ fights 3 times a year.
The only reason the IBF implement their rules so strongly is because all of all the US injunctions that had in the past with their Don King related corruption.
You wont see any injunctions imposed against the WBC by the Mexican government, or the WBA by the Panama government, or WBO by the Puerto Ricans.
Mundine can just keep putting on those WBA KO to drugs cards & his "bathroom weigh in mate" Derek Milham sucking up to Gilberto Mendoza, he will never drop out of the 3-4 in their ratings no matter what happens in any division until he retires.
Mundine can fight for 20 interim, regular, super dooper intergallactic belts, fake weigh ins etc. but all "real" boxing fans know its a farce.

I like the IBF rule...I would rather see that than the 18 month super champ rule...dont you?

I guess we will see how Mundine weighs in but dont think it will be fake mate...Trouts team are pretty sharp...I'm sure they will be on the same scales 20 seconds after each other

End of the day I'm happy for choc to be fighting the undefeated US champ for the World title...even if there is a super champ above :good

You got great knowledge of the rules Kegsy...you should be an official or something :deal
