......by not finishing him off. I am sick of hearing Pavlik supporters say that he "stuck his chin out and was acting cocky". BS. Pavlik was hurt by the right hand that started the flurry of punches that put him down. Every fighter knows that when you see someone acting like they did not get hurt from a shot they took, they are in fact hurt from the shot they took. I am also sick of hearing Pavliks fans praise him for surving the 2nd round because he has a great chin and wasnt really that hurt. BS. The only reason Pavlik survived that round is because Taylor let him. I challenge the Pavlik supporters to go back and watch that round. After Pavlik was knocked down, and JT threw those wild ass punches trying to get him out of there, what happened? JT's ass was tired. You can see it, JT was going for the clinch and grabbing Pavlik while Pavlik still didnt know what the hell happened to him. Pavlik was out on his feet. If JT hadnt spent all of that nervous energy in the beginning (and even before the fight started actually, you could see him pacing), he would have had the energy to finish him off. Honestly, Pavlik was finished. He was there to be knocked out. The only thing that saved him was the fact that JT didnt have the stamina to keep throwing. It doesnt even matter if he was throwing wild punches, if he had just kept throwing, Pavlik would have been out.
Would have, could have, should have. Taylor had Pavlik badly hurt for sure. Taylor has NEVER thrown good short punches though and he gets wild. That wasn't Taylor letting anyone survive, it's just how he fights.
So Taylor was too tired to finish the fight so that means he let him survive? The title of this thread and the actual post contradicts itself. Being too tired to finish someone off and actually allowing a fighter to survive is something entirely different.
I'm not sure what you're saying here, yeah Pavlik was rocked, but JT couldn't close the show, simple as that
Your right , i was just gonna post this point. Taylor didnt let him continue , he didnt finish Pavlik and he paid for it later . I do think the ref could have stopped it when Pavlik wobbled across the ring tthough (after he had already been down). But not that it SHOULD DEFINITLY have been stopped. Give Pavlik credit aswell , he didnt cheat , he won it
Im not contradicting myself. The point im making is that the reason Pavlik survived is because JT didnt apply the pressure on him when he(Pavlik) was most vulnerable. It wasnt because "Pavlik could take JT's best shots" like his fans on this board say. Its because Taylor let him off the hook by not selling out and finishing the job.
You are right, a lot of refs would have stopped the fight. If JT would have kept throwing, Smogger would have had no choice but to stop it. Instead he opted to clinch, which was the worst thing he could have done.
He didn't mean let in that sense. He meant let as in the 'failed to finish him off' sense, not that he CHOSE to let him get away. (E.g. The cops were trying to catch the robber but they let him get away)
What your saying is debatable, what can be said that's not debatable is that Kelly Pavlik did not let Taylor survive.
I get what cdsimple is saying in this thread, but when you say something like that it kinda takes away from Pavlik's win...Which was well deserved...Pavlik is a beast with major squabs! But, I think come the rematch Jermain will knock him out, he just needs to get it under control.. I was rooting for Pavlik that first fight.. Someone needed to beat Jermains ass! Now its time to see if he (Jermain) can overcome that loss and be the champion I think he is!
i think taylor tried his best to finish pavlik off but he gassed out towards the end of the round and wasn't able to recover anymore.
Exactly, Taylor needs to fight a controlled fight, which is why I have doubts about Manny Stewarts ability to coach a fight. Even Lennox Lewis picked up on it from the get go when he said "Jermain Taylor needs to settle down". Manny never once tried to settle his fighter down into a good boxing tempo, but instead, reinforced that he was losing the fight (which he wasnt), which in turn, caused JT to expand more energy going for broke.
:| :| :| So JT didn't have the stamina or the skills to get him outta there? Thats 100% correct. Sounds like Pavlik is the true Champion by the results & your still pissed cause your boy took a shellacking. Get over it.
