He crumbled at the first sign of adversity. Never got off the canvas to win a fight. Never came from behind to win. Lost to the Great Buster Douglas (Beaten bloody flat on his back) Holyfield twice (Bit ear off to avoid another loss) Beaten into a bloody pulp laid out flat on his back by Lennox Lewis. Lost to the Great Danny Williams Quit against Kevin McBride without injury. All of the above DQ's Tyson as ATG in many fan's opinion
bananas, i think ur math is alil off u worte tyson's prime was 1986-1988 thats a good 3 years??? hmm isnt that 2 years? :thumbsup how can someone be an all time great yet he was "prime for 2 years"?
"Never got off the canvas to win a fight." - this is actually a compliment towards Tyson. The man's chin was so damn good that he only went down after having been beat down. Somebody like Klitschko gets off the canvas to win a fight because he goes down even from the most pathetic punch. Tyson, on the other hand, takes punches from hell and keeps coming.
Mike was only resoundingly beaten by two men while in any form of his prime.. Douglas and Holyfield..... Even Lennox would admit the version he tamed was nowhere near the 100% solid game on Tyson.. Danny and Kevin beat a tough man who used to be the finest heavyweight i ever saw..
The first two posts in this thread represent the extremes of opinion re: Iron Mike. The second post is sheer horse**** when his resume is examined and when you consider that he was the most feared man in boxing for almost half a decade, practising his game with animalistic intensity. The first post is an overstatement He was certainly beatable and Buster provided the blueprint. I rank him in the lower half of the top ten alltime.
