I didn't realise this fight had been made...should be happening around April and could be for Murrays WBC youth title as well as his English belt...also it is likely that the winner will become the next mandatory for thaxton's british title. so what do you reckon? both fighters are undefeated, but murray has the greater experience and has probably faced better opposition overall, but fewkes has been brought along nicely as well. completely different styles...murray much more aggressive and a harder puncher. fewkes more skillful but featherfisted - hopefully he won't spend the whole fight running like he did against reid... i'm leaning towards murray.
Looking forward to this one - a genuine match up between two good young prospects. Am a fan of both but favour Murray to win - just think he is a more rounded fighter overall.
I'd have to favour Murray aswell , Fewkes who had been impressive last year didn't look good against Gary Reid in what was a step up for him and his lack of fire power isn't going to help . I can see Fewkes trying to win a decision by being very elusive and negative('running as some people might put it) and just failing to do so with Murray being able to close the distance and back him up . Murray by wide decision .
both there last performances were disappointing especially murrays, he struggled with a mexican featherweight journeyman, he wasnt able to put him away.its a toss up of who wins this imo, i'd put my money on fewkes as hes mixed it in with better quality fighters and has an akward style,
I'd have to agree that both their last performances were disappointing by their standards but I don't see why Murray is particularly singled out for criticism when it was his second fight in the space of 4 weeks. The first of which he put in arguably a career best performance against Dean Hickman to capture the English Title. As for Fewkes mixing it with better quality fighters - apparently Murray has shown himself to be more than capable of holding his own against the likes of Ricky Hatton in sparring.
I like Murray he's a better fighter but Fewkes is improving- Its hard to say how far they'll go but Murray seems to be destined for at least euro level I feel. Fewkes I think needs to add a little more to his game but he's not bad either.
i favour murray to win. too forceful. i wouldn't be stunned if fewkes outboxed him though. the splinters are sticking in me arsehole here. :yep
i single out murray for the obvious reason that hes fought nobody, dean hickman:hey common emma, be serious theres not one single legitamate contender in his magnificent 24 pro fight record, his power isnt that great either considering the opposition hes faced he could hold his own against Hatton but some how he struggled with a journeyman who fights 2 divisions below his respective weight class intresting
The point I was making was in response to your original post about both Fewkes and Murray's last performances being disappointing -especially the latters. Just seemed odd to me that you were willing to overlook the fact Fewkes was fighting a guy with more losses on his record than wins yet make NO concession for it being Murray's second fight in a month and out of his comfort zone over in the States. To be accurate Murray has had 23 fights to date and the mexican he fought hasn't campaigned at 2 divisions below for over 18 months (if the records are correct). Interesting you make no mention of the fact his previous opponent Dean Hickman campaigns at a weight above Murray. I think his power is respectable - won 3 of his 4 fights during 2007 by TKO. Making his first defence of the English Title against a highly regarded young fighter like Fewkes deserves some credit surely. Finally Faisal I don't know what to make of your 'common emma' remark but it would appear it is the second time you seem to have mistaken me on the board for another poster.
murrays last performance was poor, and he was lucky to get the decision, but as has been said, it was quite soon after fighting for the english title and against a south american journeyman (who tend to be several times harder to beat than british journeymen with similiar records). i've only really enjoyed two fewkes performances so far...the one against craig watson and the one against tontchev...the last fight against reid was horrible to watch
Murray needs to step it up a bit, if he wins a fight agaisnt Thaxton he would get a shot at Khan. Surley hats the only fight a British l/w wants at the moment.
