Why did i get so tired what am i doing wrong?

    Hi i had a 7 week lay off out of the gym because of illness and other problems. I had only been boxing a few months but was more then ready for my first amateur bout as after four weeks of sparring twice a week i was doing really well and handling other novices who were heavier pretty well.
    During my illness i dropped weight from 57kg down to 52.5kg but slowly put it back on after i began eating again and drinking alot of water. I got back out on the road and then two weeks ago was back in the gym only really doing conditiong and bag work as the amateurs are away for the summer break.
    To cut a long story short last night i sparred a pro journeyman who has won a central area title at welterweigh but sometimes boxes at light middle.The sparring was controlled obviously because of the difference in weight and experience. At First because of going over two months my timing was a little off and i found it hard to find my range but then i began getting into landing some decent shots and taking some good shots well. However at the end of the 3 minute round(i usually spar two) i felt exshausted completly my legs just wernt there. I felt so weak in the clinch although i did have some decnet excess with a couple of screw shots and a right hand over the top i found myself not being able to do much as i was just tired i felt like the fat and unfit kid i started out as i wish i had doubled up on my jab or got inside more but im sure i would of done this if i wasnt so tired. Im not a bad runner so why did i get so ****ing tired please help me someone coz if i dont address this im gonna end up losing fights due to my conditioning.:patsch

    and i mean i felt tired i had to sit down after the spar coz i felt done in.

    Just because you can run marathons doesn't mean you are coditioned enough to box. Different muscles are involved and are used different ways. I'm guess you never had a problem before and since this was your first time sparrign since your layoff, I'm guessing that you just don't have all your boxing muscles back in shape. It could also be nerves.

    Just keep sparring and I'm sure you'll get back to normal and better

    Yeah i know that mate but what i meant was i see people who dont train as hard as me dont blow as quick im hoping it was because he was heavier and i was continously on the move i dunno but im gutted about it.

    Were you a little nervous or anxious going into the ring? That could have sapped your energy.

    :yep If you are tight or nervous that definitely does you in. Or may'be you had a bad meal, you know, an unhealthy meal within that 24 hours before your spar. :conf

    nerves defnitely burn you out in no time. i spar my trainer twice a week and he fought in the 2008 olympics, so imagine the stress. i hardly ever manage to relax when i spar him.
    out of four rounds i usually end up doing the last two on grit and running alone. :oops:
    especially if you are used to being the better fighter, being on the wrong end of an important skill difference can sap your energy even if you aren't that active

    I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon and say nerves as well. First off, getting hit by a "journeyman pro" is far different than being hit by other novices.

    Given the little amount of time that you have sparring in general, you probably have never learned to relax or breathe properly to begin with. If you can hit a bag for 6 rounds at a reasonable pace but can't make it more than a round and a half sparring, then it's tension.

    When I learned to relax and breathe, I was able to go from 2-3 rounds to 7 rounds. Hope this helps. The answer is more sparring, and being very, very cognizant of your breathing and the tension you are holding in your legs and shoulders. Good luck.:D

    If this is a one-off I don't see why it matters.

    You mentioned taking a 7 week layoff from training due to illness and other problems which caused you to lose a significant amount of weight. Prior to your sparring, were you feeling like you were back at your previous level of conditioning and strength? I would imagine getting sick and taking that long a break from training has a lot to do with your lack of stamina at your last spar. Once you build your strength and conditioning back up in the gym, you should be able to spar at your previous ability.

    when i was sparring i was one of the fittest in the gym. skipped the most, beat everyone in the running , sprints bodyweight exercises ect ect. But when i first sparred i realised this stuff is essential does not mean you will magically be conditioned to be a fighter. ofcourse it is essential and my fitness came into its own but only once i got used to sparring regularly only then did i have an advantage over guys who were my skill level or even slightly better

    First of all id like to thank eveyone for there replies.

    Yeah i do have a problem with nerves very badly actually but it has still never stopped getting tired so easily.

    If this is so how do you actaully relax without sounding stupid you often hear trainers telling there boxers you went to sleep in that round,is that because they were too relaxed. I need to sort myself out because im going to ruin some good oppurtunities if i dont sort myself out.:patsch

    and my diet is 50/50 i eat good meals but snack on the odd packet of m and m chocolates or have the odd yorkie bar. I didnt think that would matter as my weight is bang on as im 5ft 7ins so could height for the weight.
