Wlad should fight an MMA HW champ!

I've seen it, and that's a great point. The thing some people are overlooking is a harder surface is more damaging than a softer surface. If that were not the case, how would air bags help in a collision?

I boxed for several years when I was younger. I've sparred with 18oz sparring gloves. I've sparred with 8oz gloves. There is definitely a difference there, and most of it is due to the padding. I had some bag gloves that weighed 18oz each, but I would not spar against someone wearing those. I would much rather sparring someone wearing those really lightweight karate style gloves. In fact, when I was around 13 or 14, I did. It was a guy that I'd sparred on numerous occasions with 12 and 16 oz gloves, and he never quit a sparring session against anyone wearing those. I jabbed him with bag glove. It lander on his cheek. He sat down immediately.

There was also a set of 16 oz gloves that the leather had hardened, as well as the padding. It only took a few sparring sessions with those before everyone was refusing to spar against someone wearing those gloves.

 

It's simply amazing that you not only do not get it but you're also going off on a tangent that I simply can not explain by any rational measure.

The point of my Wlad in an MMA match against Cain was not to "go off topic of the thread" but to illustrate the point. I even said this explicitly. How you missed it is beyond my comprehension.

The point of it was that effective striking (both defensive and offensive) is not best measured in a non-striking contest.

Against a wrestler, a very good wrestler, any striking oriented fighter is likely to look awful compared to how he will in an actual striking bout.

So, your using Overeem vs. Werdum as a measuring stick to emphatically pronounce that Werdum "outstruck" Overeem therefore, in a boxing match we know for sure that he'll do extremely poorly against Wlad.

You're drawing a false conclusion because they're not analogus situations. That was the whole point. You made a point, I pointed out the ridiculous line of thinking and then you proceed to accuse me of not being "on topic". It's pure nonsense any way you slice it.

That was the point of the Wlad vs. Velasquez comparison. To show that striking efficiency deteriorates given the altered conditions. His boxing would not nearly look as effective nor would it be as effective.

(Not to say that I'm saying Overeem could box well (at least well in the sense that it'd be on par with a top level professional boxer), but simply illustrating that your point is an empty one when you stop and think for a second about the comparison you're trying to make)

Overeem's shitty defense will be the main reason that Cain destroys him. If Overeem throws his hands up and retreats, instead of using footwork and trying to counter from angles, he will be taken down easily and pounded out.

Poor Punch Defense Example #1: Werdum is not a wrestler. Werdum could not take Overeem down. Werdum is not a world class striker, and was able to out punch him. Overeem should have been able to show a better defense, and counter this BJJ specialist a lot more.

Poor Punch Defense Example #2: Overeem was totally outclassed while within punching range in his K1 championship run. It was very similar to what was happening against Werdum, even though there was no threat of being taken down and fighting off the mat. I realize he has to worry about kicks and knees, but can you really ignore the trend?

K1 fighters out punch him. A BJJ fighter who could not take him down can out punch him. What do you think is going to happen when he faces a world class boxer when all the aspects of mma and K1, aside from punching, are gone? That is my point. If you can't see that, then wow. Take Overeem's dick out of your mouth for a few minutes, watch the K1 footage, and get back to me. If you can't see a trend between the Werdum fight and the K1 fights, then are a blind fool.

Olympic boxer = 710 lbs of force

Lucia Riker = 922 lbs of force

Houston Alexander = (1st punch) 600 lbs of force. (2nd punch) - 1000 lbs of force.

So if you want to consider Alexander's second punch as opposed to the first it was actually the Olympic boxer who threw a punch with the least amount of force out of the three.
