  1. Yeah I agree. It was a pleasent surprise to see Bernstein. He's an excellent pundit and commentator. I hope they keep using him.

You don't need the BBC & ITV to get back onboard if 5 go at this properly. The production quality of the entire thing was great - 5 did a top rate job.

5 would be great as the home of boxing if they put that much effort and money into future boxing broadcasts.

we just need mick to build his stable back up because when he was on itv, he had some good fighters on the cards but they have all gone now and to be honest i don't think i can name that many fighters that he promotes

Agreed with this. When I heard it was gonna be on channel 5 I immediately assumed they'd arse it up and was very pleasantly surprised.

    they did a great job.

Other than when 5 started off with very little capital, they’ve always shown themselves to be smart operators. They bought in the best US TV for bargain basement prices and started capturing a younger audience than ITV. They focused on making unusual documentaries that straddled trash and art. And they even did some decent original dramas (though not their strong suit).

They’ve also been purchasing US sports for at least a decade. Hockey, basketball, racing, etc. And actually they’ve always done a good job.

The problem they’ll have is that Sky can simply outspend them. But the network doesn’t look like it wants to spend big or take risks on boxing. So maybe 5 can, but in the smart way it’s done most of its broadcasting. Find the niche and exploit it.

Now they’ve seen how well it can do without major promotion I bet they’ll look to do more, with a more concerted push, probably focusing online. Imagine if they started looking to broadcast big fights late at night? Use the promoters’ commentary and get it last minute, but make sure you promote it online as soon as you know.

No reason we won’t see more of it now. Email 5’s customer services and tell them you want more. It’s what I did on Sunday.

Casual fans of sport will always watch a good boxing match if it is available for free.
    Fact.

    Hopefully five continue to invest.
