99 percent of the kids that start early 6 and 7 get burned out before they hit puberty. If any of them do make it through they will probably do well in the sport of boxing. Not that I have any but I would prefer my kids do other things like soccer, baseball before boxing. I just don't see the kids really enjoy the sport at that age. You see them in the gym and the negative face expressions point to the father who made them come.

I'm not saying that boxing is bad but I had so much fun early on doing team sports.

i woulda enjoyed this sport if only someone introduced me to it =(

but just saying starting young doesnt make you automaticly better, i started karate at 4 and get beaten by someone that only did it for 2 years startin at 20

I'm 17 and been boxing for 3 months. I do wish i started younger though.I would have liked to have started when i was about 14.But i done Karate since i was 8. Now that I'm older i think i can progress quicker and put more into it becuase i can see where my trainer is coming from. If yo are willing to push yourself to the best of your ability or futher then you will get somwhere regadless of age.:bbb

Don't worry about what they're saying bro. Its actually a good question. Age isn't a factor, look at Chavez's son.. I believe he started at around 16 or 18 somewhere in that category, and look how he's developing. I thought of this question myself, and as its already been said its all about your dedication to your craft. You are young, like nike used to say "just do it".

I'm 25 and plan to join my local club once I get a bit fitter:D

I fully intend to be World Champion within 4 years **** the Olympics.

So no 20 isn't too young at all.

There is no "correct" age to start boxing. You can start when your 5, you can start when your 50.
Only time age might come into it as a factor is if your planning on going professional. If you start boxing in your twenties and thats your goal then it will be a tuff road for you, but it is still possible. Thats where starting younger would have been considered better. But if your just getting into boxing as just a hobby or to get into shape then there is no age limit to it.

The best time to start any sport is as young as possible. However, there have been some successes in boxing from guys who got started a bit later. Rocky Marciano is a case in point. He didn't get started until he was about 21 as I recall, and he did alright. Marciano was willing to dedicate himself to fanatical training. Are you?

I recon Marciano also had numerous street fighs before turning pro too, On the topic, boxing is a wonderfull sport even tho I never steped into the ring I plan to do it soon, Im ill trun 22 soon too.....but I guess testing myself in few amateur fights wont be bad even if I get beat up by more experienced guys. Atleast I could tell my grandkids smth when Im old :good

Do it for the learning experience, if you don't go pro; don't give up. You learn something new everyday in boxing. It's one of the best work outs there and releases a lot of stress...its like a healthy drug, lol. Keep in mind boxing is the hardest sport in the world, it requires basically everything from the body, so you have to challenge yourself if you want to seek improvement.

I know how you feel brother, I just had my first Christmas and New Years without my grandmother, it was devasting. Boxing was the only thing that got my mind off the tragedy.

Sergio Martinez started at 20 and and he has become World champion. He's 36 now and still whooping ass. He just KO'd Sergei Dzinziruk this past Saturday. Go with what feels right. Hopkins is 46 and still fighting.
