Khan-Mayweather could land on Primetime/Channel 5 if these numbers are good enough.

I just can't see Sky letting Mayweather v Khan go if it happens.

 

You know what I think? Sky shot themselves in the foot when they took Sky Sports News off freeview. I have no idea why they did it as it's pretty much just a vehicle to push sky programming but I think it could be a reason why the Primetime sales are not all that far behind Sky's. Since they took SSN off freeview the sky hype machine may as well just be adverts during football.

 

It's not up to them though. If Primetime and five really want to be a big player, with Desmond behind them, they have the might.

 

But are they that willing to get behind it?

We all know Sky are, as soon as Mayweather is mentioned they go banana's, but are 5 and Primetime as willing to dish out the money? Time will tell

 

They were hoping for viewing figures of 1 million for Fury, they got more than double that. I read an article earlier, saying that they were really happy with the figures. It looks good so far, but as you say, time will tell.

I am anti sky, I hold my hands up Atleast primetime offer the choice to watch their fights online . I don't have sky because honestly the only thing I'd watch is boxing. The fact is sky can dominate boxing because of the money from subscribers, not because they get great ratings for the boxing. Which is annoying, when you put boxing on normal tv, it gets way better ratings.

Just shows what influence a marquee fighter can have, if some of these rumours have any merit to it, it could change the face of British boxing on TV.

 

just imagine how mayweather vs khan 24/7 on free to air channel 5 in the four weeks building upto the fight would help sell the fight.

Won't be ordering any Primetime fights until their picture quality becomes watchable, therefore if the rumored HD upgrade is true then I will jump on board as well as a few others I suspect.

 

The majority of sport gets better ratings on terrestrial tv but that's not what drives the sport on. You ask any premiership club, English cricket. Pdc darts and boxing promoters if they want more viewers for less money or the millions sky put up but less people watching? It's a no brainer.

Unless terrestrial tv is ready to put up the same money sky can then more viewers won't really mean much.

If sky went to hennessy and offered him a deal which guaranteed him more money than C5 would he take it?

You are probably correct in everything you say, but it doesn't mean it's right and boxing is different than other sports. Certainly football and cricket.

Like I mentioned earlier, the only sport I really follow is boxing, so for me, having boxing on regular tv is a big plus. I dunno, money talks........

cbs own shotime yet they hardly ever get any top ppv's, they have to set their budgets.

 

We are a long way off Khan fighting Mayweather, a lot of things could happen before then.
