Premier got this again haven't they?

I'm going for Mares to win and to win big. People will be clamouring to see Mares in against Donaire after the beating he will put on King Kong. I love watching Mares box and I think there aren't too many in world boxing that are as fluid offensively as Mares is, puts punches together with consummate ease. Gonna be tough if Agbeko turns in a Perez type performance though as his countering was close to perfect in that fight but Mares will prevail.

    Another FOTY contender hopefully. :deal

I'm one who thinks that the Perez fight had something to do with knowing what to do the second time around really. I mean, you see what happened to both Agbeko the first time around and Mares when they allowed Perez to find a rhytym. When you're faced with a fighter who fights the way Yohnny does, and you stand in front of him as they did and allow him to settle, it's damn-near impossible to adapt to that kind of style during the fight. I think Agbeko realised this and used this knowledge to his advantage second time of asking, rather than plant his feet and fight, he got on his toes and boxed him, didn't allow Perez to settle, and hence enabled himself a more comfortable route. He set the blueprint to beat Perez, even Darchinyan followed suit by sticking to the outside a bit, utilising a bit of lateral movement and then coming in with his shots, which isn't something Vic is usually accustomed to.

Gonzalez was a bad mesh of styles as much as anything else, he's easy enough to handle for a guy like Maestrito:yep, but he made things a little hard for Agbeko by forcing him to lunge in and then getting him in clinches. For me, the majority of the rounds Willy won were mostly down to the work he was doing with his free hand while holding with the other, he's not going to encounter that with Mares, who hasn't really done much work when clinching. You're not going to look good when you're coming off over a year long layoff against a guy that's roughing you up on the inside and disrupting your timing, not many people look good against Chirizo unless they take him out early, a feat only acheived by Jhonny Gonzalez.

I can't believe people think he's stopping Agbeko, if Darchinyan failed to, Mares ain't the man to do it.

This thread will become too Mares-orientated without my supervision, so I'll take it upon myself to lead the Agbeko charge.

Yonnhy was a whirlwind. Shame that Agbeko looks to have taken a sizeable chunk out of him.

Don't know all the ins and outs of this tournament but do you
all reckon it has worked better than the Super Six and why?

Well it goes without saying really, no pull-outs, replacements or postponements apart from this contest. Simpler concept though to the super six so it was bound to run smoother really.

People shouldn't be picking Mares KO! Never gonna happen imo. Agbeko UD all day long, too much experience for Mares, though Mares is a fantastic fighter, and Agbeko may not be fully recovered from his back injury..

Cant wait for this fight. My heart says Mares but my head says Agbeko. No doubts it will be a close fight imo.

I watch virtually no fights below 135 but that is gonna change!

An evening with youtube watching all the fights from this tournament is a start, I will come back when I know something about both fighters & have an opinion.
