again you havnt grasped the term race. as some one has pointed out, they have a very Celtic ancestry, like the Scottish and Welsh, and the original view is that England had a more Anglo-Saxon ancestry. Genetics have now proven that the Anglo-Saxon mass immigration didnt have that much effect on the English Celtic ancestry, therefore genetic speaking we are very similar.Anyway Celts,Anglo-Saxons,Jute's etc are not races of people either, they were tribes.

ok yeah i understand that... but you agree england has had way more outside racial influence. we are a far more racially diverse place even before african and asian people came here. so a white irish person who's generations of family before them have lived in ireland will be very different from an englishman.

i know its a mundane topic really but i dont see the difference in suppoting someone because of there nationalty( which is what most people do) or there blood line.

look how angry people are getting when you claim frankie gavin and macklin are irish. they obviously care. its like were taking away there prescious boxers.... what right has fan to claim aboxer as theres. frankie gavin is every bit irish as he is english, the fact he's irish champion pretty much confirms that.

Dont want to start too much of an argument here but if they were born in the uk they may very well see themselves as brits of irish descent and push forward their irish roots to enhance the fan base, just as a lot of people in northern ireland may see themseves as northern irish first and then brit/irish after that, depending on how they see themselves

Most definitely England has a more diverse racial influence ,but i just dont agree in 'races' of people. i dont think genetics has anything to do with boxing, its about your surroundings . Like TIME said, its people trying to enhance theyre fan base and have a wider appeal.

  5. Is this the Irish trying to claim anything and everything that has just a hint of irish!!

the poster who say's going by blood Ireland has the second most HW champions in history is ridiculous haha.....do the Germans claim American athletes with names like Heinze as German athletes. as the Germans went to the US in the greatest numbers in the last 2 centuries

Can we claim Micheal Johnson ( the great 200m runner) English because he is called Johnson so obviously must have English heritage

The Anglo-Norman army that invaded Ireland had many English amongst them. Many of the 'Normans' by that stage were themselves of mixed parentage.
In later centuries the 'done thing' may not have been to mix, but what were the soldiers going to do to pass the time, play scrabble? Like it or not if someone gave your family tree a shake I'm sure a few of us would drop out.

The Saxons were the group in England before the Normans. Do you mean to say that there was many Saxons among the Norman invaders?

Never heard that myself mate, the saxons were not too friendly with the Normans from what ive heard. Im not sure though:think

I have a Norman surname myself, could trace my roots all the way back to France if I tried. The TS point is nonsense anyways, because the Irish like the English are a mongrel race. Such a ****ing mix up of races:D

Unless I've counted wrong 4 is enough to come in second, and John L. Sullivan, James J. Corbett, Gene Tunney and James J. Braddock were all sons of Irish immigrants. I didn't count Jack Dempsey because all I know is that he had an Irish surname. There's also Paddy Ryan, Peter Maher and Tom Sharkey who were Irish and were called world champions. Bob Fitzsimmons is as Irish as anything else, but I didn't count him either.

give it a few hundred years and true blood wont count for ****. we will all be part of the same mixing pot. and if we are getting started on it, then you should know that england was invaded by the scandinavians and romans and the gene pool was changed. so true english blood is a mixture of many different types. Im guessing you are irish
