Froch getting overrated. His resume is good, but still lacking the type of wins that Calzaghe had. Calzaghe beat an ATG who has gone on to look great in his fights since and who beat Froch's best opponent in Pascal. Froch's also not had such an emphatic victory against the odds like Calzaghe did with Lacy, or beaten a main rival like Calzaghe did Kessler. Maybe after the Ward fight.

calzaghe convincingly beat a prime Kessler, where froch struggled with a faded one.

Calzaghe'victory over Hopkins is very underrated.

Cazaghe was number 2 pound for pound for a reason. He has a better resume and better performances over his opposition than froch.

    Calzaghe.

Froch may eventually get a list of better wins than Calzaghe, but it will be counterbalanced by his losses.

Froch doesn't have career defining win ... if he beats Bute he might have one.

F: Oldish Glen Johnson (former linear LHW champ coming off a loss but moving down in weight)
C: Oldish Bernard Hopkins (p4p #3, linear LHW champ)
    Verdict: Calzaghe.

F: Domination of Arthur Abraham (former MW champ coming off a loss to a guy Froch had already beaten)
C: Domination of Jeff Lacy (undefeated SMW champ)
    Verdict: Obviously Calzaghe.

F: Close loss to Mikkel Kessler (former SMW champ coming off a loss)
C: Close SD over Robin Reid (former SMW champ)
Verdict: Calzaghe. The Kessler fight was close but not that close. The Reid fight was actually a wider victory than it seems. Add in the fact that Calzaghe fought almost the entire fight with a broken hand and I'd say that's enough.

F: Close SD over undefeated prospect Andre Dirrell
C: Relatively comfortable win over Mikkel Kessler (undefeated SMW champ)
Verdict: Calzaghe by many, many miles.

F: Last-second stoppage (while losing) of Jermain Taylor (former linear MW champ)
C: 2nd rd stoppage (after being dropped) of Byron Mitchell (former SMW champ coming off a loss)
    Verdict: Calzaghe.

F: Comfortable decision over Jean Pascal for first title (undefeated future linear LHW champ)
C: Comfortable decision over Chris Eubank (former MW and SMW champ)
Verdict: Calzaghe's win looks better right now with Pascal having essentially lost twice to Hopkins, but Pascal has time to change this by doing something significant (retaking the title, beating the super 6 winner, etc.)

Calzaghe has a win to top each of Froch's, plus a ton of accomplishments: 21 title defenses at SMW, ran the show for 10 years, unified the division (technically), achieved a top 3 p4p ranking, and then won the LHW linear championship off of another top 3 p4p fighter before retiring undefeated.

Froch is good, don't get me wrong, he hasn't had time to equal Calzaghe yet. Losing to Kessler didn't help him any, but beating Ward would sure be a big step in the right direction.

Froch does and he will continue to build on it. I think he can beat Bute but lose to Ward. but a win over those two would solidify him as an ATG. in the hardest era of the SMW he is one of the best. the numbers dont lie.

Calzaghe, but not by much, and that tells you something about Joe the Blow's resume.

    THIS.

I mean, seriously, Taylor was way too gone by the time Froch faced him. Abraham never really proved himself in SMW and now wants to go back to 160. Kessler was older and damaged and he still beat Froch. Pascal was beaten and schooled by a much older version of Hopkins. The wins Calzaghe had and the conditions of the names he fought them in are far superior to the names Froch has right now.

I mean, UNTIL Froch actually manages to beat Hopkins or some ATG, there is NO WAY he can ever surpass Calzaghe even if he wins Super Six in terms of resume.

I was never a fan of Calzaghe and do think he should have done more with his talent but he is a clear hall of famer and has a better resume than Froch, there's still time for Froch to possibly pass Calzaghe and if he upset Ward that could really come close to evening things out.

Calzaghe's win over Hopkins is better than anything Froch has done and so is the Kessler win, not to mention Froch lost to Kessler. Once you get past both their bigger wins Calzaghe also pulls ahead on depth. Right now its Calzaghe but it could be interesting, depending on what Froch does, to revisit this topic in 12-18 months.
