Cooper was was losing very decisively aside from the KD, and Ali came back to win, and dominate in the rematch. As for Liston, yes, something was burning in his eyes and he felt it was a result of Liston cheating and he wanted to prove it.

Frazier was in no way robbed in the 2nd right. And we arent even sure if Ali wanted to quit against Frazier in Manilla. I mean rd.14 was very dominant for Ali. It's wrong to question Ali's bravery, what about Ali getting up immediately after being dropped by Frazier in the FOTC (even Frazier gives him props for it)? or Ali fighting with a broken jaw against Norton (whether it happened early or late in the fight, that takes heart)? Then again, this is a prime vs. prime thread and Ali wasn't in his prime in the 70s

IIRC the salts weren't illegal at that time, and were widely used. I'll admit, I've never seen the scorecard to the first Cooper fight and even though I felt it was all Ali aside from the KD, I'll give you that one. But like I said, this is prime vs. prime, that fight wasn't in Ali's prime but the rematch was. And Ali dominated.

BTW, when Vitali was the same age as Ali was when he fought Cooper. He got KO'd in kickboxing. Just sayin

Ali did want to quit after round 10 or 11 in manilla, he admitted, Dundee has spoken of it.

Stfu, Ali kd Cooper in the 4th and they stopped it in the 5th. How the **** could Cooper be up on the cards?

Wlad would have serious trouble landing anything at all on Ali. Liston had a longer, quicker and more powerful jab and a whole assortment of other skills Wlad doesn't possess and he couldn't touch Ali.

If they didn't stop it, Vit gets ktfo. He was hurt badly and getting more hurt every time Lewis touched him. It was a great fight but unless ur wearing blinders that fact is obvious.

Ali ALWAYS says whatever makes his opponent look good. He's just that kind of guy, overly generous to past opponents. He once said he would have been too scared to fight Tyson because Mike was so tough. Do u believe that too?

He said he thought about it. And he didn't anyway. Part of heart is wanting to quit but not doing so. That's what a fighter does, he fights. Questioning Ali's willpower is quite amazing considering his technical deficiencies which surfaces due to his fading reflexes in the 2nd part of his career. He took inhumane punishment in Manilla and Zaire. Try imagining Vitali or Wlad being able to take those body punches from Foreman. Hell, doing so willingly. An impossibility!

Was too mad to double check myself. In any event, Ali was much more careful with him in the rematch and he would b equally careful vs a guy klitscko's size, who doesn't have henrys hammering left hook, the only punch that Ali got touched with in his best days.

Imagine Wlad blind against Sonny Liston. Panic will set in worse than a person being attacked by the shark in a Jaws movie.

People LOVE to overrated the greats of years past, and this is completely normal.

But in the real world, if this fight took place, Ali would be in over his head with an extremely big, awkward to fight, extremelyyyy powerful beast, with an even more powerful chin.

Ali has a slight chance to win a SD/UD but there's no way he knocks Vitali out, you're dreaming.

    Vitali wins a UD.

Vitali matches up well head to head with many of the past greats but Ali is all wrong for him.

Ali is not like any fighter Vitali has fought in terms of speed, mobility and pure athleticism. Sanders was able to get to Vitali and he is not as fast or as agile as Ali and Ali could do it for more than a few rounds unlike Sanders and could take Vitali's best punches and not get discouraged.

Ali has fought big men before like Terrell who had height and reach advantages and it really made no difference. Ali's speed, workrate and athleticism is far superior to the big, slow, overweight heavies we have today, that Vitali routinely faces. Ali presents a completely different problem to Vitali than anyone else in the current division.

I don't even think it will be that close, I just can't see how Ali would lose, Vitali is too slow to land regularly on the elusive Ali and Ali is so fast he can land combinations and be gone before Vitali can counter. Ali struggled with small fast fighters who were not badly disadvantaged in the speed department like Doug Jones, Henry Cooper, Frazier and Spinks. The big powerful slow guys like Foreman and Liston he was able to beat with speed and durability.

I think this is one of the few matchups were Wlad would do better than Vitali. Ali beats Vitali by a wide UD, Wlad would be closer his superior speed and defensive style would give Ali more problems but still not enough to win a decision.
