Just wondering has anyone still been training in the recent heatwave? If so how did u cope? and is there anything you can do to make it easier to train in those sort of temperatures
i always train through heatwaves. I love the challenge, plus the thought that most people don't bother. However, I tone down the intensity of my training, so as not to flirt with heat exhaustion.
And I saw an idoit running in a suana suit when the heat index was 110! Said it was building his "mental toughness".
I drink plenty, keep my runs under 45 minutes and run slower, your times start to naturally go down once the temp gets above the 60's anyway the body simply isn't as efficient at higher temps. My boxing gym is only open between 5-7 by which time it is getting a little cooler which is just as well since its not air conditioned.
Lol. I take it noone here is from TX. It's usually over 100 throughout the summer. Winter it stays in the damn 90s most of the tine. Just hydrate and try and keep cool. Working out for 30 minutes in the heat isn't gonna be a problem if you drink lots of water. Most cases of heat exhaustion I've seen are from work g all day outside and not drinking water. Saw a guy get dehydrated at a triathlon but he admitted to limited water intake
I train here in Phoenix in a gym with no AC all year. It can be pretty brutal. Just make sure you hydrate really really well. I think even if you are acclimated to the heat, and used to it, it can still take you down just as easily as a person who lives in an extremely cold climate.
I did 32 miles on the bike during the middle of the day last week, sweated so much that my urine looked like I was dehydrated but actually I was just sweating all of the water out too fast to have to pee. I always wondered during that 24/7 why mayweathers urine was so dark and why it took hours for him to produce a sample, now I finally get that you can drink a ton of water and not have to pee if you sweat boat loads.
Usually train in the evening, like 6-9 so it's not so hot, at least compared to if I did it in the early afternoon. Stay hydrated like no other.
