If people really think the lineage will only carry on if wlad defeats lewis then what is the use in the lineage in the first place? Because then you'd have a situation where hart and burns were never champ and tunney took the lineage to his grave.

Noone considered lewis the heavyweight champ after he beat briggs. It wasn't until he beat holyfield and that's just a fact.

I don't think anyones saying that. Just that he hasn't fought his best possible opponent (Vitali), therefore can never be the Undisputed Champ.

Then if we're getting technical jeffries was the first to unify the coloured and white claims.

Johnson never defended against a top 5 ranked opponent.

Dempsey was champ for 7 years and during this time harry wills was ranked number 1. Never fought.

Lol bro who is talking about them? Wlad is the current champion. The OP has mentioned no other fighters, only stated that he hasn't fought the only fighter around that would/could beat him therefore in his eyes he isn't the Undisputed Champ.

I don't think it's being technical, though you may disagree.

I mentioned them because these are guys traditionally considered heavyweight champion.

If by undisputed you mean hasn't unified all the belts, then fair enough. He has 4 belts and the 5th said he won't fight him. But you know it's an elite group who held all the belts together and there are a few notable greats who were never undisputed but were still regarded by most as the champion, that was my point. Holmes for instance never unified them all etc. I was just showing wlad isn't alone in not holding all the belts and not defeating every worthy contender.

He just has to beat the guy considered number 2 in the division, that's all.

After he beat byrd and peter had beat maskaev he'd already defeated the number 1 and 2 in the division.

Robinson never had to defeat the consensus 2 to pick up the world championship, infact many people in history never had to do this.
