Why is Calzaghe considered a ducker?

Yes, if the fighter is worth no money they have to take chances. That's the point, Prime RJJ and Bhop weren't going to fight prime Calzaghe as they didn't need to take the risk!

The up and coming fighters have to take chances, but they all share the same US promoters so they are thrown in the mix as it's less of a risk to that promoter. The same quality of fighter in the UK who is promoted by a different company will not get those shots or chances with the well promoted fighters! However, you think Ward with his Gold medal wasn't more carefully matched and had a quicker route through than others?

Think George Groves and DeGale. DeGale is going to get much better fights. Whereas someone promoted by Golden Boy will probably get even better fights and a presence in the US market, which DeGale will not get. So in 10-20 fights time you'll have two fighters DeGale and some US fighter of exactly the same quality, but the US fighter would have more market presence in the US and so be worth more in that US market.

I also think you're missin the point on the "worth millions" to a promoter. So a fighter like a prime RJJ, Tyson, Pac, PBF etc aren't worth millions to their promoters?!?!?

Leave me out mate. If those fighters lose the promoter loses a fortune in future revenues!

Also if Joe wasn't ranked high enough to get fights with Prime Bhop etc then why are you complaining he ducked anyone!!!??

Also it's not that the US fighters won't fight in the UK due to decisions, it's down to money and money alone. Why do you think people line up to fight late 2000's Calzaghe, Hatton, Khan, Haye etc?!? It's because they're the cash cows and the people worth less want a piece! They don't care where it is!

    Copy and paste.

He was a journeyman at Supermiddle weight, Calzaghe beat the guy (Sheika) who had previously dispatched Johnson who was on a 3 match losing run, cant really complain at that, oh wait, i suppose you'll find a way.

He chose to keep the WBO belt, and defend against whomever they plopped in front of him. The WBO, which not only had the worst rankings, but was the most difficult to unify due to their rules.

Speaking of copying and pasting...

The **** you talking about 168 for? Johnson and Calzaghe talked about fighting after Johnson beat Jones at LtHW. Joe C pulled out twice. Learn your timelines before coming in with smug ass replies. Makes you look like less of a ****.:D

But please tell me how he ducked Johnson, a man on a 3 match losing run? that is plain silly for a start, if you then consider the fact that Calzage fought the guy who had just dispatched Johnson and it makes that theory plain stupid.:good

Why do you keep mentioning a 3 fight losing streak? :patsch Like I said, learn your timeline. This was after Johnson had KO'd JOnes, was named fighter of the year? Recall? You really need to understand the timelines before jumping into a conversation like this.

However, if you believe you are correct, then why did Joe C Sign to fight a guy on a three fight skid and pull out? :hey

I can agree with this. Although Eubank wasn't at his best by that point.

There are, imo valid criticism's of joe calzaghe with the main one being his timing of when to move up a division and to tie in with that, his failure to secure a fight with beyer nor ottke (prob not his fault but it can't be denied it would have given him more time to improve his legacy if he unified the division sooner)

However he cannot be accused of ducking. Not at all. Did he ever turn down a significant challenger from 01 (when I believe he became the best smw in the world after 4 stoppages in a row) till 08? Before 01 he was just a titlist and the word duck can't apply before then imo, unless it can be proven he was offered a fight with beyer or ottke.

Infact the only occasion it could ever be argued he ducked someone was when he defended his ring belt against jones instead of dawson. Maybe we can argue that was, in hindsight, a foolish choice.

All in all if someone asked me to describe joe in one word, I would never think of "duck"
