- Turn a controversial SD into an argument-ending, Bernard-silencing triumph in front of tens of thousands of home fans in his homeland of Wales, making a stack of money and putting an ATG name on his resume again (a resume which badly needed that)

or

- Take on Carl Froch in the UK, and have a massive Eubank-Benn style domestic grudge match, take Froch's zero in a football stadium, make serious cash in front of a huge crowd, underline how far ahead he was of other domestic and world-class fighters

or

- Fight on, as Joe was still performing well, winning fights, and was now established as a p4p#3 big name with drawing power and so could pick and choose his opponents. Dawson, Pavlik and many more were all there for him

or

- Cherrypick a shot-to-**** Roy Jones who'd been getting iced by Tarver and Johnson years earlier, then retire.

46-0 if he was going to quit to save his 0 he would have done so alot sooner, probably after winning all of the SMW titles and beating all of Americas top SMWs, instead he went up a division and in his first fight at a new weight he beat Americas best LHW.

Even now that Calzaghe has been gone a few years his legend lives on, and upsets the nuthuggers

 

What aclaim? Time has shown Pavlik was just a hype job. Calzaghe would have got little credit for the win. People were just desperate for someone to take Joe's 0 at the time and Pavlik was the chosen.

Popkins I respect your knowledge but come on man. The dude was in decline and wanted to leave the sport with an 0. Fans are never complacent with what a fighter achieves they always want more. I think Joe had a good career with some great names on his resume. Yes it could have been better but you can say that for a lot of fighter for example RJJ.

I agree a Hopkins rematch would have settled it for good but would anyone seriously want to watch that i.e ppv, I wouldn't have spent money on it.

Froch was green and was unknown for Joe to fight him.

Fighting a shot RJJ was all about money nothing else.

I have never made up a fight. YOU say Calzaghe never beat Byrd as an amateur. I asked for a source as proof and you cant supply one atsch. I showed you a couple of sites where it claims Calzaghe did. Now I said if you say it didnt happen, fine, I dont doubt you may be correct, just show a source to prove to me ALL the others arent.
