I know this thread has been done before but I watched Mayweather Hatton again today and it just really pissed me off how any time there was a clinch Cortez would jump in and say "break clean!" ****ing *******.

i too think he overdid his job in pbf-hatton but hatton was clearly overmatched to the point that whatever the ref did, did not matter

I forgot to mention how ****ing stupid it was that he took a point from Hatton for hitting behind the head. Mayweather's body was turning as he threw the punch and of course Hatton is gonna jump on the attack as Mayweather backed into the ropes. I have lost much respect for Cortez.

though i agree cortez did a poor job hatton threw a haymaker at the back of mayweather's head, that's illegal and dangerous

How do you know that ? hatton wasn't allowed to fight his style whatsoever so you cannot say that he wouldn't have won had he been allowed to fight his grappling style.

So what exactly is a ref supposed to do when there is a clinch. Sit back and watch the fighters hug it out for 10 minutes?

Dude I wanted Hatton to win so bad and was rooting for him all the way but when he hit Floyd in the back of the head that was just plain obvious man. You cant do that.

If your style involves holding and hitting then you should not be allowed to fight it. If you can't win without breaking the rules then you can't win. End of story

I think he was on Hatton's ass a little bit too much as well. Despite that I have to give credit where it's due and that Mayweather probably would've won even if Hatton was allowed to execute his game plan a little more without Cortez sticking his nose in there. Mayweather was landing the much more brutal, spectacular, eye catching punches.
I like ref Steve Smoger because when he is in charge of the action he only intervenes when it's absolutely necessary. The result is both fighters leave it all on the line in the ring and winner of the fight is usually clear.

No just wait a while to see if they break which often boxers do themselves not jump in immediatly everytime.
Just give them time to break themselves.

That's not hattons style his style is punching after the clinch which is hard to do with a ref getting in the way.

I suggest you go watch some boxing and see if the ref jumps in as much as cortez did everytime there's a clinch then report back.
This is not about the fight really it's about cortez and yes he was way to involved in that fight.

He only broke them up b/c HATTON was not working. He hand ample time to punch. He decided to hold then the referee's job is to break that **** up. This is not the ****ing UK. Have you seen any ****ing fight. If guys clinch and DONT punch, the ref is going to break the **** up.
