They didn't mention the Canadian money. I'm sure Kessler would have made a decent amount but I doubt it would have worked out much more than what Kelly could've made.

I read an interview with Pavlik where he was talking about the bog money he made against Hopkins and even Lockett but he has to understand he's in a different position now. A couple of losses, several cancelled fights, a spell in rehab and a reputation for being unreliable - all these things have affected his standing in the sport. If he'd taken the $50k for this tune-up in his hometown, then beat Bute while earning decent money, he'd be back in a position to make the big money.

Back then, HBO was guaranteeing Pavlik's salary. That's why he was paid 2 million to fight Lockett, etc...

It wasn't the gate, fights weren't on PPV, etc. It was a guaranteed salary that only HBO can guarantee to the select few....

Now Pavlik was guaranteed 40% of all revenues against Bute and if the fight wouldn't generate much for an unknown reason.....then he would still make a minimum of 1.35 million, no matter what.

Pavlik made an unprofessional decision to pull out of a fight the week of the fight citing reasons that have nothing to do with the scheduled fight this weekend. He may very well have tanked his own career.

Exactly. I have no problem with him not agreeing to the Bute fight if he was unhappy about it. I think the Bute offer seemed pretty fair but if he didn't then I can't blame him for looking to make more money. But, there was no reason to cancel this Saturday's fight on less than a weeks notice. It shows a huge lack of respect to his fans and was a classless move on Pavlik's part, not to mention any damage he may have done with his promoter,Showtime, etc. He's already trained for the fight, would have still made 50,000, and could have shaken off the rust he and his trainer admitted they have.

Pavlik seems out of touch with his earning potential. Several years ago he was the undefeated 160 pound champion who was getting fat HBO paydays, 2011 Pavlik isn't that guy anymore and I agree with you that something else may be going on behind the scenes, but I hope its just him unhappy over his contract like he says.

LOL, most of these comments sounds as if they are coming from a gaggle of whining ass bitches.
Kelly Pavlik did the right thing for himself and has been man enough to take the flake. Haters are gonna be haters, and I'm glad to see that Pavlik ain't worried about factoring ***** opinions into his decision.

Good luck Kelly. Hit them bitches in the head for as much as you can get!

Pavlik did the right thing. Now he needs to hire a jewish accountant and get a good lawyer, because Arum milked him just like he is milking Paquao.

  11. I only read the Jack Leow interview and I gotta say... Pavlik is delusional. I suspect that he made this decision after drinking heavily again over the weekend.

    Also, here's an observation:
Look at clips of Pavlik during the first fight with Taylor... Now look at clips of Pavlik from the second fight with Taylor. One thing you should notice is how much gusto he was putting into that right hand when he threw it in the first fight, as opposed to how weak he was throwing it in the second fight and every fight after that. He used to drill that thing like a mule kick and when he stopped doing that one thing, he became a shot fighter. Pavlik has been phoning his performances in since he first won that 160 lb. title and I knew it from round 1 of the second JT fight that it was pretty much over.

Top Rank knows this too, Bob ain't no dummy. Pavlik was getting suckered into being fed to Bute, and lets be honest, he had no shot to win that fight.
