Should there be a distinction between a victory by cuts and by TKO

    TKO usually always implies that the ref had to jump in to save the fighter from a barrage of punches that the fighter simply could not defend himself with meaning the fighter was simply just being dominated and outboxed.

    One example of where this goes wrong is the Vitali Klitschko - Lennox Lewis fight. Vitali was the one who was dominating and outboxing Lewis and by many boxing experts and fans was thought to win the fight in the later rounds. His loss is labeled as "TKO" but this is really not the case.

    And there are distinctions already made in boxing, I don't see why "Cuts" can't be added in? Besides TKO and KO, RTD is a distinction used for being retired by the corner. Thus, a fight stopped by the doctor's advice should be a victory by Cuts or it can be abbreviated to look cool.

    No. A loss is a loss. A stoppage on cuts already has a label, it's TKO.

    And yes, Vitali really did lose. Punches made the cut. Punched made it worse. Punches stopped it.

    I think it would be nice to have it noted somewhere on sites that have wins/losses. But a cut stoppage is a TKO, the ref determined the fighter could not defend himself, due to the cut/s.

    If a fight is stopped on cuts it should be ruled a Technical Decision (TD), not a TKO.

    No. Fans can remember the details behind a stoppage to detemine when a rematch is warranted. In your example, it was warranted. It's still a TKO.

    Vitali was not dominating Lewis. A fight is 12 rounds, and predicting Vitali wins late is just that, a prediction. The problem with what you're saying is that the cuts weren't caused by himself. Lennox caused the cuts.

    No, TKO stands for technical knockout.

    This is when one fighter continuing the bout would be unsafe, be it because of obtuse cuts or inability to defend himself.
