A guy who could keep Pavlik on the back foot might beat him, but the idea reminds me of when Tyson said "everybody has a plan to beat Mike Tyson until I hit 'em in the mouth!" As soon as Pavlik's opponents get hit a few times, the fight plan falls by the way side.

I am not so biased for Calzaghe. I have countless times said that prime RJJ would destroy Calzaghe. Likewise I said that PBF would take Hatton apart despite the fact my favourite boxer is Hatton. Unlike you and practically every Polish fan or every fan of Polish descent I don't make my judgements based on where the fighter comes from.

The reason Pavlik has **** all chance against Calzaghe is that he is flat footed, wide open and not very fast. He has a punchers chance against a guy with a very solid chin who ate clean hard shots against big hitting super middles and has never looked like actually being stopped.

Basically you are not landing one straight right on Calzaghe and ****ing him up like Kelly did with Taylor before finishing him. So instead Pavlik gets outboxed for every round and has to take combinations all night.

The real question is why on earth having dismantled a banger in Lacy, Eubank, Mitchell and having beaten the far faster and more compact Kessler you think a guy like Pavlik would beat someone as clearly faster, more skillful, more proven and with a better chin in Calzaghe.

And lets be honest it is because you are a fan and you are a fan of such bias because of his and your shared heritage.

As you will see I have not once said Pavlik is glass jawed, but I responded to the ludicrous statement that he had an "iron jaw".

I will be looking for you my friend. Pavlik tends to get underrated much like Vitali Klitschko was underrated, because they both are lanky, awkward fighters who will never win a dance contest. But just like Vitali, Pavlik has mastered a style that works very well for his body type. He is one of the mentally strongest fighters in the game, can excecute a gameplan to perfection and shake off a knockdown like very few fighters in history. Pavlik has knocked out four fighters who were favored to beat him and have never been knocked out before. He has a freakish KO perventage for a middleweight. Pavlik might be beaten one day, but there is no doubt in my mind that he will always maximize his strengths and perform well. Can you say the same about Taylor? He might have more physical talent for boxing and he looks more smooth than Pavlik, but he underperformed several times in his career. To have "no doubt" that Taylor will beat Pavlik seems very shortsighted. This is not like Lewis - Rahman, where despite the loss in the first fight, it seemed pretty obvious that it was a fluke and Lewis was clearly the better fighter, or Schmeling - Louis, where it was all about a gameplan that would work only once. The reason why Pavlik won the first time is his superior mental strength, his coolness he retains when he is in trouble or when he has his opponent in trouble. How do you think these attributes will be different in their next fight? Will Taylor suddenly learn to listen to his corner or not get nervous?

 

It doesn't really matter. It will still be apples vs oranges. Result most likely the same as the 1st fight. Both men will feel stronger, so I guess you could say the weight issue is a wash.
