Kelly Pavlik - more innocent than appears regarding the pull out

Maybe he didn't want to fight Bute?

I don't blame him for not wanting to fight Bute. If I were him I wouldn't want to fight Bute in Canada for $1.3 million.

So he turned down $1.35 million to lose to Bute. If I were him I'd turn that down also. He can win another title, and fight Bute in the USA or even avoid fighting Bute at all and fight Froch, Johnson and others which would be exciting fights and which could all make him a million or at least $500,000 each.

Bute just isn't a good fight for Pavlik. Bute is a Hopkin's style slick boxer technical fighter. He would get schooled. He should be fighting guys like Andre Dirrell, Carl Froch, Glen Johnson, etc.

 

$50,000....... not bad to work for a maximum of 36 minutes!

 

Only he's fighting a guy who could possibly beat him due to style.

Why don't you tell Glen Johnson to fight Kelly Pavlik and offer Pavlik $20,000 for that.

 

I really think Pavlik figured out that he can not win the tune-up and fond the perfect excuse in the money issue.

 

Be honest, do you think he has any business fighting Bute?
Why are they prepping him for Bute? Yes I think he could have beat the tune up, but even if he did I don't think he would be ready for Bute. So it does make business sense and sense for his legacy to pull out.

He does not need Bute.

 

I agree with you about the Bute fight.
But why he pulled off from his hometown fight, with some tickets sold and television? I really think he felt that he will not be able to win the tune up!

It is just my opinion. :rasta

 

from my position as the average joe on the street i would snap his arm off for that kind of money that is regarded as 'peanuts' becuase i work my ass off for a tiny sliver of that kind of money.

If Pavlik can't even beat the Darryl Cunningham's of this world (no offence intended), then he might as well forget taking on the likes of Bute, Froch etc. Don't think Pavlik understands 'short term loss (financially) for long term gain'!

I was a bit mad at him but actually, I don't hate the explanation he's giving there.

 

The more and more I read this, the more and more I see a pretty clear-headed guy...

 

I'm sorry, but 50 000 $ is a bit generous for someone without a belt fighting against poor opposition in a tune-up. These kinds of fights usually pay under or near 20 000 $ Pavlik was getting more because it's true he's famous and he's got some fans.

He never should've agreed for the Bute fight, so I see no wrong in him pulling out of this fight. However, there's no excuses for this week fiasco.
