Beginner here, that is very addicted. Been boxing for awhile now at my local gym and have a bad habit of shadowboxing in empty restrooms and elevators. Anyways, at my work I sit in a cubicle all day and although 60% of the time I'm working the rest of the time I watch youtube videos. So I just have a few questions for someone just learning/comprehending the sweet science. (If this has been asked before feel free to flame and point me in the right direction)

1). What are some good pro boxing fights that show good examples of style/science/technique.

2). And if you answered the above. What in your video would you recommend a beginner to watch/learn and pay attention to?

Thanks ahead of time for any responses.

PS: If it makes any difference I'm currently interested in defensive body movement, angles, and setting up combos.

Train for a while and then develop a basic style, or at least know your stengths/weaknesses first. Then watch fighters that have a similar build/strengths/styles like your own. Dont watch Paul Williams if you are a 5'9" heavyweight.

And watch the ametuers! You can learn more.

Thanks for the replies. I have been watching some of the olympic matches. I sit in front a computer all day at work and this is our offseason so things are very slow. I just wanted to see some examples of boxers who are particular good at certain things. Like who demonstrates good slipping/head movement? What fighter utilizes the bob and weave most effectively. Things like that.

And don't worry I won't start boxing with my hands down just because I saw Ali do it.

Start with studying and training the boxing stance of Ricardo Lopez. See it from different angles and THINK what is going on. For footwork Lopez is good, but watching a young Hopkins (under Fisher) would be great. Sometimes just doing it in the gym won't get you in the rhythm you want. Watching tapes will help, cuz it helped to different great boxers, you just need to know to pick the right things from the right men.

Thanks! That's the kinda reply I was looking for. I'll check both out.

Also, that's the reason I ask. I know there are a lot of great boxers that do things Uniquely which I wouldn't be able to pull off myself. I'm looking for examples of boxers who show excellent textbook technique at particular moves. Any other examples? And please point out what I should pay attention to because as a beginner I might not be able to catch it even if it's obvious.

Check out Arguello's fights. his punching technique was simply dope. check his fights against Rooney, Busceme, but if you're looking strictly at technique stay away from the Pryor fights.
