Bernard Hopkins schooling UFC Rashad Evans on punching 101

He needed to stop after showing him a lead right hand, because all
that inside stuff means dick in MMA. he'll be on his back if he gets
too close to tito anyway. Ortiz doesn't like to get hit. With that being
said, it would take years for evans to get timing like that down.

It's useful if they try to stand up and trade ..MMA will always present diffrent scenerios but distance and timimg is a universal rule ..If properly conrtolled you can win any fight.

quarters techique that he'll likely never use, and that could get
him into trouble in that combat sport. for the rec, i'm a hardcore
boxing and a so-so MMA fan.

Interesting to hear Hopkins talking about throwing a right hand lead. In one of Mayweather's interviews, he describes almost exactly the same approach when he throws his own right hand lead. Both of them try to throw it in that oddly casual way that the other guy can't see coming -- it's non-telegraphic and avoids fitting a rhythm. It just comes out of nowhere.

 

Watch what he is saying it is boxing talk. MMA fighter can't fight like that. it doesn't work.

 

It's not pointless even in mma Rampage uses a pretty boxing-like stance and he doesn't get taken down his only problem is that can't block leg kicks well cause of his stance

 

And yet some of it can be implemented. If a fighter is experienced enough at transitioning to a sprawl, there's little reason they can't fight in more of a boxing stance IMO.

Obviously, your front leg is far more open to leg kicks....but better for Rashad to attempt to protect his chin more than anything else IMO:deal

Sorry to bump this old thread, but after this video, I saw the fight, and both Evans and Ortiz were less square. It's something I see more and more in MMA, even when there is wrestling involved. Are the dangers of the lead leg out exaggerated? I'm starting to think so.
