He's done more at Middleweight than he did at LMW. Quite easily, IMO.

Chavez next fight is against Hearns, who is coming off of a loss. I find it hard to explain any defence against a fighter not coming off of a win, and a big one at that.

But not against a proper middleweight who wasn't a drunk.....he fights LMWs consistantly. To answer Gazs question, what do you think? :D

I'm not completely on Sergios balls....but he'd smash all three of these.

    Barker is gonna' get mullered.

Thats my point, who's at 160 at the moment to make Icemax change his mind?

Pavlik was a good win for Martinez. Especially seeing as he's smaller than Kelly. You can't complain that Sergio only fights smaller guys when his best win was against a bigger man.

He’ll batter Macklin and Barker. He’s too fast, precise and crafty. Both of those guys will be getting stopped. Macklin will do slightly better because his style will give Sergio less space, but he’ll still get battered.

Sturm is a decent fighter. He can hit a little and he’s a sharp counter-puncher. His style will maybe allow him to score a flash knockdown early on when the Argentinean is off-balance, but he’ll struggle with Sergio’s awkward style.

How he can be smoke and mirrors with his recent spate of fights is beyond me.

He will beat Barker because hes not that good, but at least Martinez will get credit from me for actually fighting a proper middleweight and not someone stepping up from LMW. He won't beat Macklin, Sturm, Pirog etc because he won't fight them. Theres far too much nutsack swinging on here for the pretty one

    He “won’t”?

He’s fought Pavlik, Williams and Dzinriuk. He would have fought Zbik but HBO didn’t approve it. He’s now fighting Barker. Why wouldn’t he fight the others? It’s not like Macklin and Sturm are unbeatable.

If Sergio batters Macklin to a pulp you’d probably just say Matthew was a LMW who grew too big.

The 160 scene is too weak to provide Sergio the stern tests we're asking for. That's not his fault. I still think he can have some success against a few of the 168 pounders.

You are making my point for me...Williams and Dzinriuk had never boxed at middleweight before....how do LMWs get a shot at the middleweight title having never boxed there before?...and Pavlik is/was an utter shell of his previous self. Barker is an easy mark, you know it, I know it and more importantly Sergio knows it.

HBO not approving of these, has something to do with it, doesn't it? To be honest, I'm not too clued up on Sergio's predicament and why he's found it so hard to find suitable opponents at 160.

I haven’t made your point at all. You don’t even have a point beyond “I don’t like Sergio”.

Williams had fought at 160 three times that I can remember. Kohl, Wright and Aquila. He wasn’t a proven operator, but had shown some form. He then took on Martinez at 160 (his insistence).

Pavlik was not a “shell” of himself. He was able to outbox Martinez at times, but soon as Sergio opened that cut it was over for Pavlik. And the simple fact is he was much bigger and was The Ring champion. And do you honestly see any of your chosen three even beating THAT version of Kelly?

Dzinriuk has fought at 160+ at least once. Can’t remember who, but your point has been utterly extinguished now.

I’m not saying Barker’s any good – he’s a Euro-level fighter until he proves otherwise. Macklin’s been found wanting whenever he’s stepped it up. His best win is probably over Asikainen – who’s a bit of a non-entity. And he lost to Sturm, which tells a lot about both fighters.

I thought that Martinez boxed Williams the first time at Middle due to Williams requesting it? As I recall it was due to Williams being scheduled to face Pavlik, and Pavlik having health issues and pulling out, with Sergio as the replacement. I could be wrong, but that was how I remember it?

Hardly Martinez's fault that he came up in weight to fight Williams when Williams himself requested it. I don't neccessarily see LMWs stepping up to fight at MW without having fought there before an issue either ( De La Hoya - Sturm was an example of this happening prior).

I agree that Martinez sees Barker as an easy mark, and expect him to win well.
