Morales wins this 116-112 type ud, would have been a great fight. I styill wouldnt mind seeing it at 140 early 2012.
There's actually a video of Marquez commenting on how he would go about beating Erik Morales in the ring. Perhaps I should translate it?
A prime Morales was active, aggressive, powerful, and had a hell of a chin. I don't think he was ever knocked down until Manny 2, though Barrera came close in their first fight in that final round. Marquez has always been tough and slick, skilled and patient. I hate these hypothetical match-ups, as they are all strictly opinion, but I'll play along. Morales in his prime would not get knocked down by Marquez. A prime Morales eventually drops Marquez and widens his lead on the cards. Aggressiveness and a knockdown or two leads Morales to a 116-111 or 117-110 UD victory. Damn, this could have made an amazing trilogy.
At 126 Erik lost some speed and power, but hed still drop Jmm at least once or twice. Jmm no doubt beat Norwood, John, and Pacman he was a beast in his own right. Hed stun, wobble, and badly hurt Eriks thin frame, but Jmm doesnt have the killer instinct hes all about surgical precision. Either a draw or controversial win for bigger name Morales in a war. I think only few fighters like Pep, Sanchez, Floyd, Saldivar, and possibly MAB would outbox Jmm in his prime.
Prime for Prime this would be a toss up but i would favour Marquez. Morales would be the aggressor and walk into a lot of counters
morales by ud in a war. both warriors but, a prime morales was slightly tougher and had a better chin. that would be the difference. i could see marquez getting dropped a few times.
Wouldn't happen, JMM would ask for $10 million and get told to **** off, and remember he ducked a shot Morales aint no chance he wants any piece of a prime Morales.
prime for prime is impossible. morales was a prime super bantamweight, one of the goats in that division. he was still very good at featherweight but not as good imo. anyways at feather, around the time of pac-mab1, i'd favour in a debatable 7-5 scenario.
Hmmm one of the best what if fights. well at 126 would be the ideal weight for this. JMMs strength are his counter punching and heart. Morales also heart, chin, power and boxing skills. I see Morales pushing the fight and while eating some good counters he had the chin to take them and return more of his own. These guys are just evenly matched and either could win on any given day. My pick would be Morales as JMM doesnt have Pac type of power. this would be as close as it gets and a draw not out of the question. If they fought 10 times i would bet on both winning 5. It looks like this fight could still happen at 140 and from the looks of it it might be more competitive than we think. too bad Morales is fighitng Matthyse since i dont think he gets past this guy. Im sure Matthysse is not waiting for scorecards anymore.
