Recent history says your pecking order is ****ed up as it relates to U.S. boxing. Just sayin'. Alexander-Kotelnik, Sturm-De la Hoya, Pirog-Jacobs, Malignaggi-Diaz I,and Foreman-Schulz were screwed on the cards. Katsidis-Guerrero, Hatton-Mayweather, & Hopkins-Calzaghe all featured biased refereeing. It's less about the color, and more about who the home/house fighter is. In the U.S., latinos and blacks are more likely to be the house fighter.
I think it sucked what happened, but I don't think that Black or African fighters are less marketable. I was a HUGE Ouma fan, and not many cared as much as I did when Bazooka came back to boxing. When we have great fighters from africa a lot of people like them. If anyone thinks they get the same push as talented white fighters though? thats crazy. Why that is exactly I'll probably never understand. It sucks what happened, but anyone who thinks what happened had more to do with race, and less to do with marketability is nuts. The fact is that the good looking, young, unbeaten fighter is USUALY going to get the nod over the rough looking, plugger who's lost a few fights (ask Glen Johnson). Race is a part of boxing, but not as big as most people seem to think. I'm Half Irish, and half Romanian, and my favorate fighters are Hearns, Vargas, Ward, and Corrales. Racism is just ignorance by another name, but really great fighters get pushed. Really good fighters who win some and loose some are gonna get shafted a lot unfortunately.
Castillo straight up whooped Ngoudjo down the stretch of their fight - no bad judging there. Malignaggi's fight with Ngoudjo is a better example.
No racism involved. See the Broner-Ponce De Leon fight. Both are GBP fighters and the judges went with the younger fighter that has a brighter future.
Ultimately it is about money. "Racism" may not accurately reflect the poor ref job. "Paid off" would probably better describe it. However, one could make a case that the politics that led to this (and similar situations) were driven by discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, and race (to some degree).
It really dont matter who was fighting, the fact is that the bull**** that the ref let go on in that fight is unforgivable. He should be fined and fired. Both of those fighters worked hard and had too much on the line for a bum like that to be the ref. I wont speculate on who won because thats not the blatient errors that took place. The ref injected himself into some serious business and he should be dealt with in a serious manner.:bbb:bbb:bbb
Let's keep our fingers crossed that Obama will pardon Jack Johnson. Let's keep 'em damned crossed. After all, he's only been in office for three years thus far!
Agbeko said Africansbare TREATED UNFAIRLY!! true .WITHOUT A DOUBT MY OPINION. BUt TO me golden boy owns mares ,taking nothing away from him ,but golden boy wants to keep their boy champ.
The most influential color is boxing is green. The fighter with the more powerful promoter gets the benefit of the doubt. Sure ethnic marketability plays into the equation but that tends to go hand in hand with your promoter's clout. I will give agbeko a mulligan for his comments. Who can blame him for saying what he did after the way he was treated?
Its all business, if you go to japan, you need to ko to get the win, if you go to europe its the same.
