if you got a good amateur record behind you 50 wins+ and turn pro and get put on a card will you be making peanuts. like 500 quid lol
unless someone knows about your am career, or you are known in your are or where you are going to be fighting, or you had a BIG achievement in your am career and you signed with a promoter who knew about it, don't expect special treatment (this is what I have gathered). in Europe, you get paid something between 200 and 400 euros per round, and you would be starting with 4 round fights. So in UK it could be somewhere similar in sterling.
Friend of mine went pro after 25 amateur fights. He got $800 from his promoter for the actual fight and then made almost $1200 more from getting a percentage of the tickets he sold (around 150 iirc).
Im a pro in britain and the way it works is that you start off boxing on small hall shows and the promoters who run these shows cannot afford to pay huge amounts of money because their is no tv money. All they have is sponsorship and the gate. So say your average show has 4 fights on it and each home fighter makes £600 with Journeyman making anywhere between £1000 & £1500 for their troubles that show may cost about £17000 to run by the time everything is paid for and the show is organised and promotions and other fees. If you divide the cost of that by 5 home ticket sellers it means each boxer needs to sell 113 tickets at 30 quid each before the organiser of the show sees a stich of profit. Thats how it works, but when their is tv involved, if the fights are being aired on sky for example. Sky Sports put up £80,000 or so and thats when the fighters start to see an increase in pay.
when you get your money, how much of it do you end up keeping? doesn't of it go to promoters/managers/trainers?
A lot of how much you make will depend on how well of a name u have in the boxing world from the Amatuers.... Olympic gold winners like Oscar De La Hoya earned several thousands their first fight... but your average joe who's not a massive amatuer star wont earn anything like that. Being a well known from another sport will also get u big dollars for your debut.. that fool Anthony Mundine made $40,000 and was the mainevent on a PPV for his debut after converting from rugby league and selling his name rather then his nboxing ability... quite a lot of how much u will make comes down to how marketable! if u can sell the promoter tickets off the back of havin a great repuation from the amatuers of fame from elsewhere the more money u will get!
