Hard to say. He has the athletic ability, naturally, to be competitive. But he is 40, so Vitali transported into the octagon right now would generally be taken down by any competent wrestler and pounded out, or taken down by any competent jiu-jitsu practitioner and submitted. Any pure striker would probably be mauled by him. If he had gone into MMA instead of boxing, who knows where he would be. In the top if he approached mma with the same methodical discipline he approached boxing. Just my informed opinion...
