Havn't seen an awful lot of Orlando, need to study his style a bit more to make a prediction. Good thread mate.

    Cheers Bro

I'm the same but he'd cause even a beast like Donaire problems from my early observations.

Ain't seen their first fight though Gaz...what was the story there? Orlando took it easy, hence why he battered Hardy here?

    Indeed.

I don't know what's funnier? Getting dropped by a jab by a club fighter or mucking up the 'X-Pac' jump ;-)

'Concepcion was over the weight' :tong

TBH mate I more meant "take this ****" as in Canizles had already broken Hardy and was just walking down his man and showing off his skills by that point.

Hardys problem was that he was the come forward, aggressive guy at Euro level and it worked for him at that level.

That was also Canizales way of fighting at world level. So as soon as Orlando had established his authourity, he was fighting his fight and Hardy was trying stick and move to keep Canizales off which wasn't his style in the first place.

I thought you meant he had summat personal against him.

He certainly was taking the ****: Shame for Hardy to get sparked after taking such a beating already.

It's obvious Canizales would beat the weight-drained Nonito that fought Concepcion, I'm not at all insinuating that performance is indicative of Nonito as a whole, before anyone jumps on my back :D

I generally think it's better to see a fighter's career out before judging him like this, especially against a monster like Canizales. The only real things that he has against him are the lack of great opponents and the fact that he never unified. A fight with Jibaro Perez or even Lora up at 122 might have served his standing better, but it wasn't to be, hence the difficulty in pondering matchups against Jofre, Olivares, Zarate, Ortiz etc.

That said, I will say that I think he would've handled Mares, Agbeko, Perez and Darchinyan on the evidence of their careers so far, good fighters though they all are. Can you imagine Mares getting away with the disgraceful bollocks that he did against Agbeko the other night? I can't, definitely not on first thought at least. Donaire-Canizales is more interesting, though as mentioned I'd like to see Donaire conclude his career first, excellent though he looks so far. Good likely clash of styles I'd say, though we haven't yet really seen Donaire up against the particular type of stylist that might prove to be his foil. Darchinyan, Montiel and maybe Sidorenko if we're generous are all we have to really go on. I thought that Montiel might have been a dangerous, if limited, sort of darkhorse test, but he never had the chance to get going before the cuckoo's made their entrance. And I haven't watched the Hernan Marquez bout since it happened, but I vaguely recall him having quite a bit of success against Donaire that night with some fairly tight and tidy technical stuff before Donaire's power saw him clear. That said, we know what a weight-drainer Donaire is, so I might be off the mark there.

Canizales vs either Sahaprom or Hasegawa are more intriguing propositions, I think. I was quite a big admirer of both at bantamweight, especially Sahaprom. Excellent technician and quite underappreciated at the time although clearly the best and most talented fighter in the division for a number of years, moreso than Marquez or Austin imo. Austin especially was built up far more than was worthy for defending his alphabetty spaghetti title against no-marks while Sahaprom was repeatedly turning over the likes of Nishioka in Japan.

I hope Hasegawa has something left to give btw, he was/is a gifted fighter, if a touch flawed and naive at times. Splendid to watch. He isn't getting any younger though, so here's to hoping.

Yeah, he'd just give him problems, though. Nothing the almighty Donaire with his Hammer of Thor wouldn't be able to dismiss after a few pestering moments. He did beat the great Montiel, after all.
