Joe Louis (Schmeling II) vs Joe Frazier (Ali '71)

Could be very good fight, probably ended by a very good Joe Louis KO of Frazier; but Louis had better not take too long doing it, or Frazier will turn Louis's steak into hamburger. I can't not like Louis in this one, though.

 

I think Joe Louis is in for a decent test.

But it's one he passes.

I think that Louis would win, but if you get this match wrong, you likley get it wrong big time!

 

Either man could have won on any given night. But I don't like Joe Louis's tendency to get tagged by the left hook, nor his discomfort for fighters who swarmed him and fought in a crouching position. In this particular case, he'd be facing one of the best heavy weight left hookers of all time, with ferocious power, fast handspeed and upper body movement that was off the charts for a heavyweight. A possible win for Louis, but probably a guy to best keep him away from.

 

One of Joe Louis' greatest strengths was his ability to control distance but this would be impossible against a swarmer of Smokin' Joe's calibre. Frazier would be on Louis from the opening bell and Louis' effectiveness would be diminished as he didn't like being pressured or fighting while going backwards...which was inevitable due to Frazier's relentless nature. Louis did possess an atg uppercut( kryptonite for Frazier) but he used it more as a finishing tool then as a weapon on the inside.

Ultimately, the key to this matchup is that Frazier dealt with boxer-punchers FAR better than Louis could deal with pressure in any form. Not to mention Louis' disdain for infighting and Frazier's ability to impose his will on his opponents and make them fight his fight. With that said, I see both starting slowly but Louis would be uncomfortable from rd1. Frazier starts smokin' around the 3-4th round and ends it in the 6th.

 

Joe Louis shatters some glass after landing a few uppercuts.Actually,a more realistic result would be Louis winning via forfeit,as Frazier would still be stuck in his dressing room,literally shitting himself at the prospect of fighting such a dangerous puncher.

I can also see Louis from Godoy II bashing Frazier to pieces.
