on a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest, how important is it to fight relaxed and have a calm state of mind?

    About 7 or an 8, ideally 7.5.

Ultimately, you want to be relaxed, but alert. Being too relaxed can be bad.

This is a stupid question. Like all things in Boxing... It depends on how a guy is wired.

If a guy is a guy that feeds off of aggression, isn't discouraged by being tagged, has a solid chin, and has the motor to go with it? Nothing wrong with channeling that with solid Boxing fundamentals. Fighting in that amplified state is an advantage.

If a guy is a natural thinker, weary of getting hit, and discouraged easily? He MUST fight relaxed. Why? His talents can't be used unless he is focused, absorbing his environment, and acting on the information. Fighting in an amplified state will make him miss or not take advantage of opportunities.

don't see how this is a dumb question. people are on both extremes of whether one should fight relaxed.

Very important to be relaxed, but to remain alert.

You can fight at an intense level and still be relaxed. Relaxation doesn't necessarily mean sitting back, it can mean that you're nice and loose keeping your mind clear yet still know how to turn it up

Thats the best answer here, the guy is trying to learn a few things and you are all giving him a hard time why?

"The point between rage and serenity."

That's what Professor X said, anyway. Then again he did lose his ability to walk...

Maybe it isn't a stupid question. NO question is.

Fighting relaxed just means able to do the business of Boxing in your "normal" state of mind without burning excessive energy. This comes with training and practice. This understanding though is almost impossible to convey to a person who asks the question because it doesn't necessarily LOOK like what it IS.

Are you a NATURALLY relaxed critical thinking guy? If so, your natural state of Boxing should be relaxed. Are you a NATURALLY high energy/aggression guy? If so, your natural state of Boxing should be high energy/highly aggressive. Your training should also build on that.

Basically Mike Tyson could not have fought like Ali and vice versa. While conversely Wlad Klitschko might watch Ali and learn some things to copy because he is a thinking disciplined fighter.

You should fight the way that is best for you. You only learn that by fighting more often and being ready when you do so.
