Put this on the Elmer Ray thread earlier but great pic all the same - PS anyone have anything on when/where Elmer Ray last know movements were? One or two over on the Elmer Ray thread were asking - would be good if we could put our heads together and find out

Ali hardly looked like a virtuoso vs Mildenberger...it was one of his poorest performances.

Rocky,I saw Elmer Ray ko a left-hooking Lee Savold in Ebbett's Field in 1946. i lived about a few blocks from Ebbett's Field. Can't recall too much about that bout...Cheers.

Red - which critic planted that idea in your head?? Try watching the fight maybe? - his flurries were absolutely scintilating - a little below par for Muhammad Ali in his prime is like way above par for most other fighters anyway:D There wasn't any fight in his prime (Liston I to Terrell) where he didn't look virtuoso IMO (name me another heavyweight who looked like he did in those days? I can't think of one can you?)

Awesome Burt, who would you have compared Elmer Ray to - as far as punching power goes - and maybe in terms of level of ability as a fighter generally??
