Don King is and always will be a major ass.

They are the most populair in Germany, I'll give him that. But the main reason they aren't that "big" in the US is because they are not from the US.
If you look at their records you can also see that the majority of their opponents were Americans eventhough they mostly fight in Germany. While the situation about most American champs of the past has already been mentioned (almost all domestic fights, ea National championships)
Americans like their "World Champions" to be from their own country, and even call their national "football" championships the "World Series" wich should tell you enough. Even LL wasn't seen for full in the US during his reign, probably also for not being an American.

I'm also starting to believe this "The_President" ****** is actually former US president George W Bush himself with his brilliant insightful comments. atsch
