Knowing them, and having been fortunate to have been able to go to the gym, chat with them, watch them train etc etc, doesnt mean I have any connection with them and their gym.

All joking aside, Clevs done well and it will be a great fight but people go on here like Clevs been steaming through the rankings at 175 ripping up all contenders before him, whilst Bellew's been fighting 'Bums' and proving nothing atsch

 

I've got a lot of respect for what Clev's achieved at a young age and in a relatively small number of fights. But he's never been in with a real puncher and I believe there's a good reason for that.

Murat was a very good opponent but really a natural super middle. Brancallion was a non puncher, as was Mohameddi who gave him fits, as was Oakey, as was the last chap he fought. Macintosh, erratic at best...

Im just not sure where the 'decent chin' stuff comes from when it comes to Clev, for me he has much to prove on that front.

 

Bellew has some cheek to talk **** about mcintosh not wanting to fight him. mcintosh was making much better than 12k in europe fighting against better fighters than bellew has.

i dont really post on here, but your hatered for bellew is getting boring! when he stepped in to face clev, you were making threads about how great he was and how much of a fan you were?

I like both Cleverly and Bellew, but do think Cleverly just has too much for him and would beat Bellew either on points or a late, accumulative stoppage.

People talk about Bellew's power, but I don't think he has been in with enough decent fighters for us to really know. History is littered with fighters who were stopping people left, right and centre at the lower levels, then when they stepped it up they ground to a halt.

Cleverly's style seems to have improved through the pro ranks, so he did not stop that many early but has improved on that front. I also don't see his chin as being particularly bad, there are many worse out there who have put together great careers. I also think that Cleverly seems to train very meticulously, whereas there is always that weight and preparation cloud hanging over Bellew.

So I like them both, but think Cleverly just has too much for him. I would also prefer Cleverly to win, as I think he will go on to do more on the world scene, and that Bellew-Cleverly Press conference has me preferring him if they meet.

Would say, though, if Bellew was not British, we would all scoff at the idea of him being ready for a world title, he'd be compared to a Burns-type defence; his best wins have been the two against McKenzie, during one of which he was on his arse and spent spells looking very beatable/ragged, and the other one of which was a terrible fight that some people scored for McKenzie (I didn't). So I don't think he deserves the shot in the first place, much as I enjoy watching him as a fighter.

I'm with you, I thought it was dull and disappointing but I had it clearly for Bellew. But at the time some had it the other way (although hopefully a minority!) - it saw it in a few places at the time. Sometimes if a fighter goes in saying that they will be aggressive, then they aren't, people get swayed into thinking a performance more disappointing than it was and go the other way in the scoring, I guess? But I'm guessing - I had Bellew.

I just wanted to hear from someone that could argue McKenzie's corner for winning that fight, I don't think I've seen anyone score it to him.

Anyways, I think that this is the only opportunity for Tony to fight Clev before he moves onto bigger things, as far as I can see this'll be his only chance at a "world title" shot.

 

Who did and where did you see it? Ovill hardly threw a punch, even his corner said so to him.

Bellew was elated with his last performance so who knows what he really believes. His last performance was **** poor in my eyes.

 

Tbh I can't remember, sorry - maybe his family and friends were giving interviews lol.

But regardless that does not undermine the basic point of my post of yesterday, particularly the last paragraph, even ignoring that bit it holds up. To go from that sort of fight/performance/level to a world title shot is something we would find surprising in a foreign fighter, and I made the comparison with the stick Ricky Burns gets for his defences. I stand by the post, even if I did not note where I heard the McKenzie support from at the time. It was far outweighed by the people who thought Bellew won fine, myself among them. But it wasn't the dominant performance Bellew predicted, whatever he said afterwards about wanting to show more patience, more skills. He simply did enough against a guy who didn't really come to engage the way he did first time out.
