The WBA - who is to blame? (And the WBC for that matter......)

This is probably a General Forum thread really but I figured I'd get some sensible answers on here.

Obviously as ''proper'' fans of boxing we are able to ignore the alphabets and just be content to see the best fighters fighting the best fighters on occasion, or just watch the linear champion do his thing....

The WBA have three world champions in several divisions, many of whom are awarded championships contrary to the WBA's rules, yet this seldom seems to matter.

Obviously the sanctioning bodies charge fees for putting their moniker on a particular bout for one of their titles, whether it be ''world'' or ''inter-whatsit''.

But who is to blame for this mess?

Is it the WBA themselves, who are a business?

Or is it the fighters/promoters - who continue to pay these fees?

Obviously most businesses will get away with what they can in order to make a few extra bob, is it good practice on their part?

Or do all parties carry their share of responsibility?

    Thoughts...... :good

Everyone has the blame. First, it’s the TV networks who will pay more for “title” fights. If they started paying only for the matches rather than the lineage, this would be less of a problem.

That leads to the fighters, who want the money that comes with a title. They also want to say they’re a champion, whatever way they can. So they task their promoters with getting them a belt, regardless of what the belt is.

The sanctioning bodies are just trying to make money – they’re running a business. But obviously they’re feeding the TV machine by feeding the fighters.

So it’s a massive circle-jerk. The only way to stop it is to institute a worldwide governing body. But in boxing, short-term greed always trumps long-term success.

Funny how a few months later Bunce completely changed his tune on the WBA belt.

The situation is a total joke and the WBA are by far the most guilty org for having multiple champions in a weight class.

These so called 'recognised' world titles are becoming more meaningless with each passing year.

Us boxing fans are part of the problem too. Despite how much we don't like the alphabet titles, we still pander to the bull****.

I lay the blame at the WBA. If they ran their business properly, they wouldn’t need to make all these belts to make extra money. It's only a matter time before they get sued royally as they cannot justify some of their BS decisions.

You would think the backhanders from the promoters to diddle the rankings would be enough too...
