no, 50k for the entire show. Tarver would have been paid 10-20k for his heavyweight bout they televised on shobox.
Why would it be bad for boxing? I'm no Green fan, but it wasn't like he had a string of poor performances like Roy Jones where you could see his skills erode. He had the wrong tactic, and a bad night to go with it. Not that I think the result will be much different 2nd time around, but if this is bad for boxing, wouldn't Darchinyan vs Donaire II be the same kind of thing?
It's bad because it's a pointless fight. I believe a rematch should happen if the fight was close, or there were other circumstances at play. This was an utter ass kicking. People complain when a new fighter coming through the ranks beats up on total nobodies found in the local pub. Mismatches. This is the same, just at a higher level, but still a mismatch. Green has no hope, and pretty much everyone knows it.
Different circumstances, Vic is the goods, and has proved it in the ring. Green isn't that great, and plenty knew he'd get a flogging if Tarver wasn't too far past it. Green has been hyped up to be something he wasn't for quite a few years. He should have never been in the ring with Tarver the first time IMO.
The max amount which is invested into a ShoBox card. This fight doesnt happen on Showtime or HBO. Showtime have no dates till next February at the earliest anyways.
Kegsy, are you Al Bernstein by any chance. I always thought you had a good knowledge of the sport.:good
The fight does not generate much money at all in the US. The live gate would be small, money from US tv networks minimal at best. Some fool is losing big $ if they pay either Tarver or Green a million each or anywhere remotely near that mark....hence why it wont be happening. I personally see Tarver taking a payday to fight Huck in Germany or Lebedev in Russia. Both guys will pay very well & are legit top 10 Cruiserweights which would make compelling matchups. Cunningham could be an option too however he aint the biggest draw in Philly or the East Coast.
Cheers for the compliment.:good Im not Al Bernstein mate...just a very keen observer of the ins & out of world boxing. Really enjoy reading about the business side of things in boxing...many bad business decisions but sometimes good ones too.
The figures didnt add up for me either m8, even if they both get 500k each its 1 million outlay just to pay the fighters. The Audience at Tarvers Shobox heavyweight fight wasnt big so they wont make 1 million in ticket sales, only way to recoupe it is on PPV but then whos going to buy it? mostly Australians not americans. It just makes no sence for it to be in America money wise. What id really like to know is if Tarver has been contacted and made some type of an offer. If he only just heard about it in the media then we know its a publicity stunt and Dannys got no intentions what so ever of fighting Tarver again. I cant see him defeating Tarver and most people agree so it dont make any sence, Tarver will only beat him up worse this time round, he will have more confidence and we seen what that did for him when he fought RJJ the 2nd time round. He will go for the kill pretty early and Danny will be lucky to last 2 rounds imo. I dont see many other options for Danny other than getting the WBF title and flogging that off, he cant get to LHW so wont get that title, wont fight no legit CWs who hold current titles and wants the IBO one back Tarver has. I wonder if Danny and his team have thought this out enough, i honestly dont think they have. What does Danny do when this backfires? One view is he fights Tarver, gets flogged again then what? Other view is he has no intention of fighting Tarver, so whos he going to fight and for what title? Both options make no sence what so ever.
by this logic greens rematch with beyer should never have happened because that was an utter ass kicking. The whole allure of a rematch is to see if a fighter can bring something new to the table. have no problem with this fight and really think its a big wake up call to the haters that claim green "has no heart" If green loses then he loses. so what. life goes on
Who knows, Green may look better second time around? If he can learn to avoid Tarver's left it would be a good start. Where are all the blokes who say you should always support your countryman in boxing when he's facing an overseas opponent? :yep
