Mayweather jr's "trouble" against southpaws

Hey Magna what do you think of Mayweather-Martinez?

My main problem with that theory is that the way they throw punches is totally different. Ortiz throws good straight punches at times, but as soon as he gets excited he goes to throwing these big, almost roundhouse hooks all the time. That's why I think Mayweather is going to counter him with ease.

Also, while Pacquiao's defense has improved from being terrible and disorganized, (watch his frantic retreats straight back to the ropes in the first Marquez or Morales fights), to being somewhat decent, (he uses a lot more movement, circling, and a better guard now and doesn't tend to panic when caught with a good shot) Ortiz is often wide open. Maidana's big overhand shots caught him again and again, and Berto landed plenty of straight rights on him as well.

On the plus side for Victor he does have much more consistent one punch power than Pacquiao does.

 

Apparently after Mayweather's second professional fight against southpaw Reggie Sanders, a relatively close effort in which Mayweather was cut, his father told him never to fight against another southpaw again.

 

Yeah, I saw that fight. Floyd looked terrible.

 

Just because you can't cope with our hyperevolved style and revolutionary "step the other way" strategies doesn't give you the right to be a disgustingly right-handed bigot.

The Judah fight is a bit worrying especially considering that Mayweather has only declined since than. I do feel like that fight was made difficult early on because of Judahs pure athleticism than anything else though.

Ortiz is going to get his ass kicked though, The odds speak for themselves. Haven't read the thread yet through this is just my two cents.

Pac has more than 'no chance'. He's proven himself to be at least that good.

 

The angles they attempt to come in at are relatively similar, but I do agree with you. He has more flaws than Pacquiao does, making him the easier fight.

But fighting a fast, aggressive power hitter coming in like that is gonna be decent prep for Manny, assuming the fight comes off. He could really not fight anybody to present him a better 12 round look, in my opinion.

 

I think Martinez would about do it right now: Taller, about as fast, with some serious mobility. I think he'd pick up a close points win. Mayweather isn't quite as good at chasing as he was awhile ago-Mosley is far from elusive, and did a decent job at staying on his bike when Floyd really had him reeling.
