Olympic gold medalist One of only few HW champs to have beaten very fighter he has faced One of only few to become 3 time HW champ Great level of opposition, arguably only Ali's was better Good KO % Retired while on top Rich $$$ and enjoying a part time job as commentator No physical or mental damage sustained Now, in contrast, look at Tyson/Holyfield/Bowe's life/career? Tyson-Broke, addict, and hardly cracks at top 10 HW ATG in most list. Holyfield-Still fighting at 44, perhaps due to the feeling of unfullfillment in carreer. Showing signs of speech damage. Bowe-Same with Holyfield, although he would be lucky if he will be ranked within top 15 HW ATG when all is said and done. Has there any other boxer's career been handled better than Lewis?
Absolutely on of the greatest. A typical example of someone who was not appreciated sufficiently for much of his career. H2H in a virtual tournament of all ATG's, Lewis comes away with the most wins IMO.
Easily an atg (unless your Zakman ). Never beat any great fighters when they were in their prime but he beat a whole raft of good ones throughout his career. The only thing that counts against him was that awful performance in South Africa.
Good guy, good fighter, and retired with his marbles and his money. But Lennox Lewis is no ATG. His opposistion was weak, and he was ktfo, TWICE, by guys who are extreamly forgettable. Yeah, he gets credit for beating Holyfield and Mercer, both pretty formidable at the time. But two wins don't make an all time great.
prime Lewis would easily beat a prime Tyson - as Tyson said 'he's just too big' - but thats' the beauty of boxing ' what if?'
No. Lewis' chin was always there to be hit, and a prime Tyson would have found it far too often for Lewis to win.
No. Prime Tyson involved Rooney, Cus D'Amato's "peek a boo" style, and a Tyson who was scared of nothing, and upset by nothing in the ring. Tyson at his best was the ultimate combination of speed, boxing, and defense. Tyson was faster than Lewis, hit harder than Lewis, and had a better chin then Lewis.
His opposition wasn't weak. Don't know how you came to that conclusion.:huh I could list his opposition but we all know how to find boxrec. As for his defeats, the Rahman one is pretty poor and lowers him in my eyes but the defeat against Mcall was responsible for him becoming a much better fighter. Theres a big difference in performance before and after that fight, mostly down to Manny. Too much emphasis is placed on his two defeats. I say again, easily an atg! (Though I hate the phrase)
